Back in the day when I first heard these, I had NO context for where these came from, other than they were from Italy. I didn't even know the band was called Name. I just knew, "Oh, cool, it's Italian, it's official, and it's in English for some reason." There was no way to track it further!

Quite a lot of connections to Eurobeat. The ending theme My Will is covered by an Italian band called "Name", with lead vocalist Michela Capurro who also sang on a bunch of Eurobeat including tracks found in Initial D.

You ever heard the Italian opening and ending themes to Inuyasha? Despite being made for the Italian dubs, they're in English. Change the World, in fact, was arranged by Dave Rogers, better known for a huge amount of Eurobeat, including many tracks in Initial D.

I think he's just sort of evolved, and yeah, the new one sounds a lot more like what he sounds like now. The 1997 one sounds exactly like all the other Eurobeat he and other people he associated with were making at that point in time.

To express empathy, I think I understand this. When talking about virg murgurgnurg, I had people tell me stories they DID want shared, but they'd say they didn't want it known the stories came from them, which meant I wasn't sure I could safely tell those stories without somebody figuring it out...

They were credited as Capcom Sound Team when the game first came out. This isn't because Yoko left. This is because they NEVER credited the sound team as individuals.

Okay, they didn't technically do anything "wrong" by crediting "Capcom Sound Team" in the video description, but it's kind of a bummer that we're still crediting Capcom Sound Team when we all know by this point that Yoko Shimomura composed the entire Street Fighter II soundtrack.

In the case of this first one, I was a little blindsided and confused. I finished the round knowing I'd clearly beaten the unprepared guy. The organizers STILL looked at me and asked me in front of the players and audience if I would accept that he would have won if he had better shoes.

The tournament organizer pulled me to the side and asked me to step down once I won my semi-final round because his intention was to let two beginners fight each other and have a beginner win to make the beginners feel included.

Man, I barely even remember that episode. This is two instances where something in fiction sounds like something that happened to me, but in the case of the other one somebody brought up, the fiction happened well over a decade after my event, so I swear to Christ I'm not just pulling from media.

Remembering how I used to participate in more Dance Dance Revolution tournaments in my 20s. I won one, but I regret & am frankly kind of mad about 2 tournaments where I was asked to stop playing at a certain point & let other people win, & I was too meek at the time to stand up for myself & say no.

One of the co-owners of the store is here on Bluesky, though largely inactive. Dude, if you ever read this, I definitely don't hold it against you. It's whoever that tall skinny white dude in the baseball cap was 20 years ago while the store had a DDR Extreme cabinet in it.

From the article about the store's 20th anniversary last year, I don't believe the guys currently operating the store are the guy who said to my face he'd get me my prize and then never delivered on it. The current owner I guess was around, but I know he wasn't THE guy who promised it to me.

In some ways, yeah, it could be. Songs were longer, many songs had more difficult charts, and on top of that they introduced concepts like bombs and three to four arrows on screen at a time, which DDR would not implement until they sued Roxor and then took those concepts for themselves.

Look, I'm not saying I was ever so good that I could have done tournaments on a national or international scale, but certainly for smaller community events I was doing well enough. This video is of In The Groove and not actually DDR but the concepts were nearly identical, so you be the judge.

I get the sentiment, but I was PISSED this was being asked of me right before I was about to win. Didn't wanna fight about it & didn't have gumption to stand up for myself so I stepped down & walked away. Wish I'd had more moxie when I still had the skills to do these tournaments. So mad at myself.
