It’s a shame that these (at least some of them) are dreadful edits. Italics are bonkers, OCR clearly went off in places, and nobody checked wrong words. (Merc is changed to mere way too many times.) Do better, @dawbooks.bsky.social . I bought them though and enjoyed rereading some old favorites.

My scammer is incredibly persistent. I got my third email from him, only two days from the last one. I wish I could believe in it, just to think someone actually did care that much about my book. Alas.

I know spam emails are so common for all of us authors right now and we all know they're AI-written, so I thought I couldn't be surprised any more by them. Nope. I got a choose-your-own spam AI email.
AI spam email: I especially loved [choose one: the charm of the talking toys in Toy Shop Nights / the whimsical tension with the faerie folk / the cozy chaos of The Sleigh Crash of ’74]

Any state, entity, or ideology becomes obsolete when it stockpiles the wrong weapons: when it captures territories, but not minds; when it enslaves millions, but convinces nobody. When it is naked, yet puts on armor and calls it faith, while in the Eyes of God it has no faith at all. Any state, any entity, any ideology that fails to recognize the worth, the dignity, the rights of Man...that state is obsolete. - Rod Serling

As a general rule, even bad contracts usually get the parties clause right, because it's a gimme. To have a red flag there is so bad and such a sign of what is to come. Be good to yourselves and your work, and don't ever sign a contract like this.

Did not expect one of the best paragraphs I’d read about baseball would come from an Irish newspaper www.irishexaminer.com/sport-column...
And in that pause between pitch and contact - longer than logic, shorter than hope - we remembered why baseball existed long before we judged a sport's value by viral moments and betting apps. It is the romance of failure. The mortal beauty of trying and missing seven times out of 10 and still being considered great. It is the only sport where patience is a weapon, and panic the surest death. You cannot simply run out the clock in baseball; you must face it, pitch by terrifying pitch, until it finally releases you.

These feckers have already made off with my last almost-five-decades' worth of creative output to try to "teach" their hopped-up answering machine how to fake writing. If anyone ever *breathed* the suggestion to me that I should willingly use that soi-disant "tool"...it would not go well for them.

Holly Lisle (RIP) used to say (I think it was in Mugging the Muse?) that she'd sell you a hundred ideas for a dollar. Because ideas are the easy part. I think about that often with these AI comments, because ideas are everywhere. Making them work... that's harder. And it's where the fun is.

It's doubly weird to see people show up cheering AI as it helps them *generate ideas,* the very thing AI is supposed to help you execute. (Poorly!) They're not even showing up, idea in hand; it's them showing up, poking the AI, and saying, DO SOMETHING. Handing all their brain to the machine.

I saw someone say AI is useful because it generates ideas. My dude, I'm full of ideas. I have docs and docs marked under 'ideas.' I have outlines and fragments of stuff I might work on. Trunked stories galore. Even if I continue to write a novel a year for the next 40 years I won't run out of ideas.
