Been to see Omar El Akkad this evening. Slightly intense, very thought-provoking. An incredibly humble and eloquent man.
Photo of a theatre stage, a large screen stating “Southbank Cantre, literature and spoken word. Omar El Akkad in conversation”. 2 men standing in front of the screen, with some blue chairs. The stage is lit up with pink lights.

One of my favourite books of the year or any year. Doireann Ní Ghríofa is a fantastically talented writer. She archives voices and losses and lives in a way that feels utterly authentic. I can’t recommend this book enough! #BookSky💙📚 app.thestorygraph.com/reviews/b9ff...

Dropped eldest to York Uni today for fresher’s week. When I asked him what he will miss from home, he answered “the cats”. If I ask again in a couple of weeks I suspect the answer will be having his laundry done for him. Anyway, saw a couple of fabulous rainbows on the journey 🌈
View from a car window, a rather industrial scene of a motorway services and an electricity pylon, in front of a large, glorious rainbow.

Extract from UK Prime Minister’s Questions published today on The Guardian online:
12.40 BST
Daisy Cooper (Lib Dem) asks about mental health provision in Hertfordshire. Will the PM back her campaign for a new facility there?
Burnham says that is a good question.
Cooper is right to point to wasted spending in the health system, when people have to be sent a long way for care. A mental health strategy will be put to the Commons before Christmas, he says.

Title: My confidence in my understanding of the scientific theory.

A diagram where the confidence is marked in red on an otherwise white figure

Panel 1
"Before I got a book about it."
The figure is red up to about his stomach

Panel 2
"While I was reading the book."
The figure is reading a book. He is red up to his forehead.

Panel 3
"When I had finished the book."
The red level has dropped to around his mouth

Panel 4
"One week later."
Now it is at his chest.

Panel 5
"When I try to explain it to somebody."
The level is back at stomach level.

Panel 6
"When they ask a follow-up question."
The red is so low we can barely see it.
