Wow! The manicurist in the Marx Bros.'s "A Night at the Opera" has finally been identified! That identity - Jean Burt Reilly - has been a holy grail of hard-core Marx fans. It turns out that she had a long, award-winning career as a hair stylist for movies and TV. IMDB updates have begun.
The manicurist in 'A Night of at the Opera' was played by Jean Burt (later, Jean Burt Reilly), per research by Robert Stryker of The Marx Brothers Council. The image shows some background information on, and images of, Jean Burt Reilly.

Is it that time already?! Send us your recorded comments about ROOM SERVICE (1938), for an upcoming MBCP episode in which we revisit the film and respond to listeners' comments. All details below, in the commanding voice of Bob Gassel. We want to hear from you -- but don't say "Jumping butterballs!"
A screen shot of a post shared by Bob Gassel in the Marx Brothers Council group on Facebook. The text says:

"An early call for submissions to our August Room Service re-dive. We want your opinions, nitpicks and hot takes. If it's connected to Room Service, we're interested.

"As we move into the back half of the Brothers' filmography, we know enthusiasm can be harder to muster—but we encourage you to look for what works as well as what doesn't. And yes, we're fully expecting to hear that the original play wasn't written for the Marxes. That's certainly part of the conversation, but we'd love for you to dig deeper than that well-worn observation.

"If you've never submitted a comment before, this is a great episode to jump in.

"As always, a few guidelines:

"1. Aim for under three minutes. If you need a little more time, that's fine—but try and be concise.

"2. Unless it directly supports your point about Room Service, please skip the story of how you first discovered the Marx Brothers. We promise we'll devote a future episode entirely to everyone's Marx origin stories.

"3. Try not to simply list your favorite bits. Most of us have the same ones, and it doesn't give us much to discuss.

"As always, we may edit submissions for clarity, pacing, and to avoid repetition. Audio or video submissions are welcome.

The call is out for listener comments on A DAY AT THE RACES for our revisitation of that somewhat beloved film! Note these guidelines from Bob, and submit your comments via email by May 22 to be part of this riveting discussion of the team some MGM publicity hack once called "America's Joy Friends!"
A screenshot of a Facebook post by Bob Gassel, with the text reading:

Calling for audio submissions to our upcoming A Day at the Races re-dive. We want your takes, nitpicks, and rants on one of the more divisive Marx films. Any opinions or personal experiences with the film are fair game.

Once again, we encourage those who’ve never submitted a comment to jump in. There are too many great voices in the threads we’ve yet to hear from. Don't be shy.

As always, note our guidelines:

1) Try to keep submissions to under three minutes. If you need a bit more time to make your point, that’s fine—but aim to keep it concise.

2) Unless it directly connects to your point about the film, please skip prefacing your comments with how you discovered the Marxes. We’ll dedicate a future episode to your Marx origin tales.

3) Finally, try not to just list your favorite gags and scenes. They're pretty much the same for everyone, and don't give us much to respond to.
Be aware that we may edit your comments for clarity, pacing, and to avoid repetition. Any audio (or video format) is fine. The deadline is Friday, May 22, 2026.

A Visit from the Marx Brothers
Noah Diamond after Clement Clarke Moore

‘Twas the night before Christmas, with no waxing wroth.
Not a creature was stirring, not even a left-handed moth.
The posters that hung on the walls sure impressed:
Monkey Business, The Cocoanuts - even Go West.
The children were wild, eating crackers in beds,
while barrels of smoked herring danced in their heads.
And Minnie and I sang a couple of numbers
before we retired to our long winter slumbers,
when out on the sidewalk arose such a clamor,
we knew it was Wagstaff, or Firefly, or Hammer.
Away to the window I flew in a dash,
like a flute - no, a flush - no, a fish - no, a flash.
Surveying the scene, I called out to the others,
“I know in a moment it must be the Brothers!”
And riding like fury, with Ethyl or Mabel,
they appeared like a vision, profoundly unstable.
“On, Pinky! On, Rusty! On, Stuffy! Professor!
On, Wacky!” (And isn’t that Lassparri’s dresser?)
The apartment was suddenly full of these fellows -
Pirellis, Ravellis, Tonys, Fiorellos!
And even, with all the odd grace of a shamisen,
a mild-mannered lackey who called himself Jamison.
They got right to work, spinning laughter and tunes;
they refilled our hearts and they stole all our spoons.
And soon they departed, as fast as they came,
off to cheer up the world and continue the game.
But I heard them exclaim, over all our applause,
“Now, let’s not lose our heads - there’s a Sanity Clause!”
