What in the name of Beetlejuice ARE these things? They're zebra morphs of 'squat lobsters', likely in genus Allogalathea. They're not true lobsters & are more closely related to hermit crabs. Now which one is white with black stripes & which is black with white stripes? (📷: hoopderscotch)

Here's a pet peeve. People who remember their dearly departed by leaving wreaths on benches. So where are we supposed to sit? The practice is popular in Lowestoft. I try and get nice about it, think of it as folk art, but really I want to chuck them all in the bin.

Exciting skies above Lowestoft. The sandmartins have returned. This is part of a large flock. Their homes of last year have washed away as the cliffs retreat inland so they will be building aafresh.

Sigh. We're getting a heat pump and solar panels installed in our Victorian terrace. Good for the planet, but the only way the costings make sense is the addition of batteries - which can also mean the UK not paying to turn off wind turbines at night. BAD MOVE! www.theguardian.com/environment/...

In my Bishnoi book, MY HEAD FOR A TREE, I met a doctor who is intent not so much on planting trees but in creating tree planters ... that human connection with trees. It was sweet to find a similar plan at work in London's Hackney today.

Spain’s marine protected areas (MPAs) are still being decimated by bottom trawling. We took legal action last year but Spain has issued more fishing licenses for bottom trawling inside these MPAs since then. So we’re going back to court with @oceanaeurope.bsky.social to protect these zones.
