Today, in (sadly) rejected ledes .... my opener for our local story on FIFA being probed over its ticket practices. I knew it was a bridge too far, but couldn't help myself 😅

As the kids say, FIFA was hoping for FOMO, but it appears they have FAFO.
Translation for those over the age of 30: FIFA's much-criticized ticket-pricing strategy appears to have run afoul of New York and New Jersey state legal officers, who have issued subpoenas over the soccer body’s ticket practices for the upcoming World Cup games in their states.
New Jersey Attorney General Jennifer Davenport and New York Attorney General Letitia James are seeking transparency over the eight games — including the World Cup final — scheduled to be played in their region.

Some fans who have bought tickets in the tiered categories found their seats weren’t in the section they bought, such as a top-tier Category 1 seat turning into a Category 2 seat, which has less desirable sightlines or further from the field.
“Being honest about ticket sales is not complicated. But FIFA has turned buying a ticket to the World Cup into a gauntlet of confusion, fake scarcity, and impossibly high prices – all at the expense of consumers and hardworking New Jerseyans,” Davenport said in a release.
“It’s an honour to host the World Cup, but the event is not an invitation to exploit our residents and visitors.”
