Even if you decide to set aside the walkthrough and play by yourself again, the slightest friction will make you return to the walkthrough, is my experience.

This reminds me a lot of using a walkthrough when playing an adventure game. I think most people have experienced that you can often start off just fine playing without hints in such games, but the moment you look up something it becomes very very hard to keep playing on your own.

idk if this is really a case of "mishearing", but in "Girl" by The Beatles they go "tit tit tit tit" in the backing vocals and pretended it was just an innocent sound like "la la la" or whatever, even though they very much were just saying tit on purpose lol

One time I did a Nicolas Cage deep dive and watched all of his more artsy films (e.g. Raising Arizona, Adaptation, Matchstick Men) and I thought "damn, this is pretty good, why does he do shit like National Treasure??" and then I looked at the box office numbers and that's when I knew why

hell yeah, and the same is true for all human expression, not just language. All art is about communication and AI art communicates nothing. It's an empty shell, an ugly hollow husk without anything inside that's worth experiencing.

To me, I much prefer a song that has interesting ideas or novel concepts but is poorly performed, than the other way around.

There are lots of different kinds of bad music, but the first things that come to mind that annoy me personally are: - boring/bland, uninteresting, overdone, cliche - not communicating anything in particular, just making sound for the sake of it

It's such an obvious point that the ai bros just refuse to understand. I don't want to have a song. I want to make music. I want to spend time making music, because I'm having a good time. I don't want to speed up the process, I want to prolong it. I want to make music forever.

The fact that my name is "Martijn" pretty much dates me. Before the 1960s almost nobody was called that, and after the 2010s it wasn't used much either. I was born right into the first dip 😅
Graph showing the popularity of the name "Martijn" in the Netherlands, from 1790 until now. The line is flat until the mid-1960s when it rises very sharply and peaks in the mid-1970s. Then it drops off rapidly again, stays stable for a little while in the mid-1980s, but then declining again over the decades until it reaches the bottom just after 2010.

"SCRUBJAY" sits over a bunch of images of frogs, birds, doors. it's a very 90s look

Why would I spend money on a thing, knowing the money isn't going to end up with the people responsible for the thing? It just doesn't make sense for me, as a consumer. I want to support good work. I want to buy things I like, so the people who make them can make more things I like.

A new tactical combat game for #msdos has been released! #StarCadre Team Command puts you in charge of a squad of elite operatives in the far future, conducting special missions on behalf of an interstellar civilisation. Get it from cyningstan.itch.io/star-cadre-t... #ibmpc #cga
A collage of screenshots of Star Cadre: Team Command against a background image. The background images shows the K-53 modified fighter craft in the foreground, that takes the away team on their missions, on a landing pad beside its hangar, with planting around, a city scape behind, mountains in the far distance. The screenshots are all in 4-colour CGA. They include: the title screen which is a 4-colour version of the background image, a mission taking place in an industrial complex, and the personnel screen where a new recruit is being added to the team.

I never had a console growing up, until I got an Xbox 360 when I was already in my 20s. So I never really knew just how much cool & out-there stuff there is on platforms like the PS2. My impression was that it's dominated by boring mainstream AAA stuff, but there's actually a lot of creativity!

Things also moved at a breakneck speed in the 90s, but the update culture was very different. Users decided when to update. They were informed beforehand on what the changes would be. They could prepare for it and then go for it when it was convenient. And if they didn't, things remained the same!
