MindCORE is awesome for many reasons, especially for those with interdisciplinary interests. Because of that fellowship, I met Sam Clarke, a philosopher and fellow mindCORE postdoc at the time, who has become my closest collaborator. This dramatically reshaped my career (for the better!).

We found that, while non-human primates might have human-like mental state representations, they fail to use or deploy these representations with the ease and frequency that people do. This demonstrates the power of computational modeling for theory-testing!

Comparing these models' behavior to observed primate behavior allowed us to evaluate the theories' abilities to predict primate behavior --- and reveal the theories' hidden assumptions about how primates use their mental representations!

Do non-human primates have theory of mind? My new paper takes a new computational approach to this classic question. We implemented verbal theories of primates' mental representations as computational models. These models completed classic visual perspective-taking tasks.

This report in Nature on the costs of competing for & administering scientific grants is shocking: "In other words, European taxpayers will have spent more on the funding process than on the funding itself, and the scientific ecosystem has been drained." www.nature.com/articles/d41... 🧪

Point of no returns: researchers are crossing a threshold in the fight for funding
With so little money to go round, the costs of competing for grants can exceed what the grants are worth. When that happens, nobody wins.
