Folks might have noticed that our department has fully _four_ searches ongoing for (junior) research faculty this year (Exp PChem, Theory, and two lines within the Inorganic-Materials-Polymers spectrum.) Come and be part of our next generation!

Note on that linked document that there are two postings (junior/senior) for, effectively, a single position---we are encouraging excellent candidates at both the junior and senior levels to apply, and the committee will take career stage into account as we deliberate.

From 2022 to spring 2025, American PhD-granting universities posted an average of 289 openings in departments of chemistry and biochemistry. Starting in the fall of 2025, that number fell to 185 openings.

Also I am obsessed that "fluorescence" was coined in the footnote of Stokes 1852 paper. He was like -- if opalescence can be named after opals, why not name this glowing after fluorspar? And I think that is cool royalsocietypublishing.org/rstl/article...
A screenshot from On the change of refrangibility of light by Stokes. Page 15 of the document. He says, " I confess I do not like this term (dispersive reflexion) I am almost inclined to coin a word and call the appearence fluorescence from fluor-spar, as the analagos term opalescence is derived from the name of a mineral.

As a result, ligand/device engineering needs to harmonize the optical & transport properties of the QDs _and_ the energetics at the heterointerface _and_ the crystalline morphology of the organic film! More to come!

[...] Samihat's spectroscopy identified an unheralded barrier: the morphology of the evaporated organic layer critically depends on the 'substrate' (here, the QD films!)

However, though we boosted performance with the new architecture, there is distance still to cover before technology transfer. Beyond addressing carrier traps (as was done in QD solar cells) and FRET-based backtransfer (as @dcongreve.bsky.social's team has highlighted), [...]

Indeed, there are fundamental transport advantages vs all-excitonic bilayers—in conductive films of quantum dots (QDs), photoexcitations dissociate into carriers that diffuse independently to the interface, to re-form as spin-triplet excitons in rubrene.
