Because it's unecessarily complex. Learning a language isn't just memorizing translations. Add culture to the mix, and a heaping spoon of dialects and... Please explain how this works with Yoruba (for example) with 100s of dialects in SW Nigeria alone, and that's without accounting for the diaspora

Paramount and Warner Bros. shaped over a century of culture. By combining them, we aren't rewriting history — we're equipping these iconic studios with a more powerful engine. Together, we are Skydance: a creative-first ho Show

Richard Kahlenberg? Of all people who should know better - esp since he's been making the same argument since the 90s. Which was essentially: class-based affirmative action is the only way to go because racism is icky.

This Day in Labor History: September 30, 1919. A shootout occurred between armed guards protecting a union meeting of sharecroppers in Elaine, Arkansas and whites seeking to intimidate them. The next day, the governor ordered the military to crack down. Let's talk about the Elaine Massacre!

Their business model is based on "politics as horse-race" so they need to keep the drama going. Their commitment to non-partisan means they *have* to both-sides everything. Similar to what's happened at the News Hour (who coincidentally have Walter on every Monday...)

May have to read the entire book (not usually a fan of this type of writing) in part because I was an enumerator for the 2000 Census. And boy did I learn a lot - and that's after I'd run national surveys and worked with federal data (like knew my way around IPEDS).

I feel like this is similar to how the Right views slavery. On the one hand "it wasn't that bad" along with "Jefferson and Washington were 'conflicted' about it." On the other hand, "we want credit for abolishing that stain on Western Civilization."

Ah, reminds me of my time working with the Office of School to Work in the early 2000s. Our loudest critic of Phyllis Schlafley, because she didn't think kids learning a trade needed to know anything else. Like history. Or science. Also, Bush literally pulled the plug on that office.

Greatest trick AI leaders have pulled is convincing many people—especially influential people in govt, media, and business—that their software is intelligent, independent, yet never culpable. Humans build it, humans deploy it, but no one bears responsibility for the things that happen when they do.
