Here's a more detailed follow up to my post yesterday using @seoClarity data to show Google is increasing the number of AIOs that rank lower than 1st position. Thanks to @sengineland for asking me for the data and insights! searchengineland.com/google-ai-ov...

Google’s AI Overviews seem to be slipping in search rankings, opening new chances for SEOs to outrank them and reclaim lost clicks.

Research from the seoClarity Research Grid for US keywords on desktop shows the steady growth of keywords with an AIO where the AIO no longer ranks in the first position. This represents about 10% of the keywords we track. And AIOs are in positions 4-10 about 3% of the time now

MASSIVE good news for trans people in the United States. A federal judge has just granted class action status to transgender people looking to update their passports. This means that very shorty, the window will open to update your passports with the correct gender marker.

At its heart, Star Trek is a utopian fantasy about a society so advanced that they are capable of holding productive meetings that last no longer than three minutes
A TNG scene. We're in the Enterprise conference room, where Picard is holding a meeting with Data, Troi, and Dr Crusher. Barclay is also there, for unknown reasons. Maybe he wandered into the meeting and just sat down, and everyone was too polite to mention it. That happened to me once. I was visiting an office location I didn't normally go to and I wasn't quite sure which conference room I was supposed to be in. I walked into one and sat down and it took me five minutes to realize I was in the wrong meeting. From the perspective of the people in that room, halfway through that meeting, a stranger walked in, sat next to the boss, took notes for five minutes, then walked out without saying a word.

Yes! I think we all know we have the capacity to love more than one person at a time, but we grew up in an ancient system centered around owning people as property. Key to poly is the concept of compersion: the ability to have joy in the joy of another even if the cause of their joy isn’t you

Denver gave people experiencing homelessness $1,000 a month. A year later, nearly half of participants said they had housing.
Participants in Denver's basic-income program reported having more-secure housing, though results were similar in the trial and control groups.

(continued) But now in October those have gone down a bit, settling in at just under 6%. So far, AIOs are not a big threat to ecommerce traffic, especially since even when they do show, they are mostly informational even if the organic SERP is mostly products for sale.

Frankly, this doesn’t surprise me. The crawling and intake of documents for the LLM is entirely separate from that for Google Search. While we’ve shown that organic ranking is now a factor for sources getting into AIO, it is not the only one. These pages can still qualify by semantic matching.
