My view now, given that it's actually a minority that are both legal and good quality, is to ban everything that doesn't pass the Bicycle Association audit process that many ebike brands now voluntarily go through. That way a ban can have longevity with proper exceptions for the kits you highlight

True, but whether it's cheaper is quite subjective i think. I ride probably twice as much as I used to and for longer and more varied trips now I have access to pedal-assist e-bikes. Therefore i replace more car trips and save more. Going to try to work out numbers today.
