Even if I didn't write the liner notes for this release (which, in fact, I did), I would highly recommend it to anyone. Fantastic recording.

Great article. I'm usually immediately cynical about claims like "lost masterpiece" or hyperbolic "missing link" or "Holy Grail" labels. But Mark Stryker makes a really good case for why the Tiberi Tapes are worth the hype. It seems like there is some legit new aspects of Trane to hear.

Happy birthday to Branford Marsalis, who turns 66 today. That means that I am now age ... oh, fuck. I first interviewed him in spring 1992 when I was working for The South Bend Tribune and he was six weeks away from starting The Tonight Show. This excerpt captures something fundamental.

For Dolly, R.I.P. There was only one of those. I wouldn't necessarily call the title track from her second solo LP, Just Because I'm a Woman," a feminist anthem, but for country music in 1968 when it hit the airwaves? Yeah, it raised eyebrows, and I'm sure women heard her loud and clear. 1/2

Rara Avis: I have seen many amazing club listings pages but this is the most jaw-dropping. May 6, 1965, Village Voice. Coda: With the passing of Sonny Rollins, I think Ron Carter is the last cat mentioned by name here still on the scene--still playing at an insanely high level. May he go forever.
