The essential context here is that OpenAI is caught between industry leader Anthropic on one side and on the other side nearly as good and far cheaper open-weight models and Altman sees his chances of becoming a centibillionaire slipping away unless he plays his cards just right.

RHG and his ilk's response will be to do some racecraft, insisting that these are Berbers and thus not really racially Black (while ignoring the ample evidence for dark-skinned Romans) and/or to just botch the chronology and claim that this was part of Roman decline.

Got around to the 4th season of Reacher. A bit of a mixed bag -- someone needs to tell the directors' it is possible to have too many drone shots -- but the closing scene scene with the homeless woman nails it.

A clear example of bad faith, and why it’s a mistake to indulge bad faith. “Weaponization of DOJ” was always a blatant lie, a made up accusation from people who were eager to do the very thing they were pretending to oppose. Indulging that helped the liars, and empowered them to end rule of law.

This is the dodgiest and most-desperate thing I’ve seen in the bubble so far. Amazon selling their chips to a group of investors and leasing them back - an off balance sheet arrangement done in plain sight. Really scraping the bottom of the barrel here. And they’ll probably buy more!
Amazon is seeking to offload about $8bn of advanced Nvidia chips to external investors through a new vehicle aimed at strengthening its balance sheet, according to people familiar with the matter.
The Seattle-based cloud giant has held talks with investors in recent weeks to gauge interest in the deal, which would allow the company to spin off thousands of Grace Blackwell chips it is deploying in data centres across the US into a special-purpose vehicle.
Amazon will then lease the advanced AI chips back from the SPV, which would tap outside investors through debt issuance. By unloading the expensive semiconductors to investors, the company could adopt a more asset-light approach to its balance sheet.
