Our new University travel system has a scary warning banner essentially saying "don't buy the cheapest fare as added on costs add up" and then you go to buy the next level up so you can pick your seat and it says the fare is "against policy and must be justified" and none of the justifications fit.

I've seen her say in other interviews that the thing she remembered most from the class was the lectures on Mars and those were all given that year by Virginia Gulick. So at least we had the right guest speaker.

Possibly lifetime best student review of a class I taught.
I actually came into my undergraduate with the intent of being a mechanical engineering major. I found after a bit of time that that wasn’t my passion. It wasn’t something that I was super interested in, wasn’t interested in doing for the rest of my career. But it was something that I thought that I kind of needed to do in order to be an astronaut or to keep the door open for becoming an astronaut. It was really kind of at that crossroads where there were a couple of really interesting courses with titles like, ‘What Makes a Habitable Planet,’ ‘Planetary Materials.’ And I looked up and I said, ‘Whatever that is, that’s what I want to do.’ That was in the geology department. And so I signed up for my first geology class. And it was love at first class. From then on that passion just grew, as I continued in my career.

Good luck to Jessica Watkins on her ride up to the space station this morning. I still have her final project ppt on my laptop from when she took the "What Makes a Habitable Planet?" course I co-taught at Stanford with Jack Lissauer.

What are the current best ways to visually map/display one's collaborators? I'm giving a review talk and would like something more visually interesting and appropriately recognizing people than lists of names or some of the circle and lines diagrams I can think of.

Interesting tidbit from today's briefing at the Outer Planets Assessment Group (OPAG) meeting by NASA planetary leadership: NASA is considering *two* flagships for flight—one to Uranus, the other to orbit and land on Enceladus. Both were Decadal priorities—but in series, not one over the other.

The imposing Callanish Stones stand talk with their shadows spanning out across the glass. It's a super clear sky, but looks cold. Above the central stone is a strange figure-of-8 shape of dots. This is the location of the Sun, at noon, on various different days across the year.

Yes. It's a tradition of deeply looking at one planet at a time vs. a tradition of looking at ensembles. Both are needed for exoplanets. I think the astro perspective has led to folks missing important bits of the elephant or relying too much on retrievals giving its length at 1.98321 m.
