Each week we get a delivery from the wonderful Riverford Organic Farmers and with the organic and fairly produced fruit and vegetables is a leaflet, usually from the founder. Today it was about their journey to an employee cooperative and I thought it was worth sharing.

Small but important pleasures. Making fresh salsa, cooking aubergines (oven powered by our solar panels) for baba ganoush. Good Spanish cheese and fresh bread. Anjunadeep 16 playing in background. What could be better?

Fairly depressing analysis from @financialtimes.com in short the UK Government has missed it’s opportunity to build meaningful EU links. Political timidity, self imposed red lines, lack of focus + inability to communicate trade offs and choices.

Dropped in on Damascus Rose Kitchen, in Old Fire Station in Oxford. It’s staffed by refugee women, serving ethical vegetarian food. A lovely vibe with families and children. Their menu shows CO2 impact of dishes.

In today's Financial Times about emerging EU rules on "made in Europe" and how UK car industry might be affected. European Movement UK. The comment about Nissan UK's plant having a "utilisation rate of 30%" certainly jumped out.

@financialtimes.com on how UK OBR has downgraded UK growth projections - which have been consistently over-optimistic. Labour annoyed its happened now, whilst Hunt was able to use more optimistic estimates to fund NI cuts. I would use downgrade to revisit NI cuts. But don't expect it to happen.

Sarah O'Connor in today's @financialtimes.com about how iPhones are too big for many women's' (and quite a few men's) hands. A good example of gendered exclusion in product design.

Climate change is serious, and the @rescoop.eu team are working hard to develop citizen based solutions. But we aim also to be joyful, optimistic, energetic, practical and ethical in our work.

89% of people globally think climate change action needed. But media frequently doesn’t reflect this reality. @janrosenow.bsky.social

Learned so much. Moist eyes when @dirkvansintjan.bsky.social gave his last speech as president. And a late night after. 50 of us walked into an empty bar and stayed until after 1:30am.

Was in Strasbourg last year. The city tram system runs into the neighbouring German town of Kehl across the Rhine (effectively the same urban area). Photo is of statue to German/French friendship in the park.

I'd add that median incomes in many EU countries now comfortably above UK. Resolution Foundation done a lot of work on this issue. But stats don't measure quality of life - here are a couple of photos from nearby vegetable and fish markets in our small town by way of example.

As ex-local gov manager I loved seeing this display in the entrance of our local (rather brilliant) local government run sports centre and swimming pool. Highlighting UN sustainable development goals. Well done Lagos council.

Was in Romania last week, my colleagues shocked by result. My small observation was how his publicity photo obviously airbrushed. It illustrates something about honesty and transparency - if only at a subliminal level.

One of the great things about the EU is how it encourages information sharing. Looking outwards rather than upwards. In Bucharest we were looking at how we can encourage more community energy in Eastern Europe. Loads of examples and great practice - and the lessons were definitely two way.

One of the best aspects of my job is working with people across Europe in REScoop.eu. Inspiring individuals taking practical steps to address climate breakdown. We are in Bucharest, looking at how we can build new collective financing funds.

Sceptical of this idea. Pension funds are there to provide pensions to their members. Councils and their staff (I’m one) contribute into these over decades. Unlike most of rest of UK public sector council pensions funded. If the investments are viable funds will invest anyway.

Just to finish off - we also love leaves on our Acer, we previously had in a pot (which it hated) but since planted in the ground it’s grown beautifully. Here it is this morning.

So agree this, and when you look you see so many depressing examples in society. I’d put my small plug for Dieter Rams and his 10 principles of good design.
