If you haven’t come across him before (and I suspect you have) I recommend Lim Stanley Robinson for that sort of positive view.

Solar farms usually need large stretches of open land. India found another place to put them: directly above water that was already flowing through irrigation canals. The idea took shape in Gujarat. #ActOnClimate #Renewables #ClimateActionNow #solarpower

@edconway.bsky.social ‘s book is great, at Wilderness book tent a couple of years ago he passed around a bottle of crude oil and explained how it differed. Fascinating.

Charlbury is a bit of a public charging desert. A couple of 22kw chargers at the coop and community centre would help a lot, and a row of slower 7kw chargers at the railway station for commuters. (Couldn’t get map to work on phone - but that might be me…)

Small but important pleasures. Making fresh salsa, cooking aubergines (oven powered by our solar panels) for baba ganoush. Good Spanish cheese and fresh bread. Anjunadeep 16 playing in background. What could be better?

One further small reflection. The video avoided the common “male gaze” - ie the close up did not pick out an attractive woman instead focussing on an individual genuinely sharing the joy of the evening.

Understand the narrow economics. But impartial, factual information is the bedrock of a healthy democracy. The gradual BBC retreat will weaken that. As my mum sometimes says « penny wise pound foolish »

Why is the UK such an outlier on trade? Most countries have pretty consistent exports from one decade to the next, but in the past 5 years the UK’s trade profile has lurched in the opposite direction to almost everyone else. On our substack, @hunsaker.bsky.social digs in to what has happened⬇️

Britain is doubling down, as other economies rebalance their trade.
Most countries have pretty consistent exports from one decade to the next. Stephen Hunsaker asks why the UK’s trade profile has lurched in the opposite direction to almost everyone else.

My Brussels colleagues regularly move between countries, to study, to get a job, to join a partner…. FOM is a different mindset from “immigration” but until UK politicians explain this we won’t get very far.

I’m at the EU sustainable energy conference. It’s busy and ppl from across Europe exchanging ideas, but a) almost no Brits present and b) no-one has noticed their absence. The Brexit debate rumbles on in the UK, the rest of Europe has moved on.

Fairly depressing analysis from @financialtimes.com in short the UK Government has missed it’s opportunity to build meaningful EU links. Political timidity, self imposed red lines, lack of focus + inability to communicate trade offs and choices.

Can I make one other suggestion about widening UK electoral base? Include people from EU with settled status, some of whom come from countries that don't allow dual nationality. And PR, so 30+% of votes don't end up with 60+% of the seats. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

@financialtimes.com on how UK OBR has downgraded UK growth projections - which have been consistently over-optimistic. Labour annoyed its happened now, whilst Hunt was able to use more optimistic estimates to fund NI cuts. I would use downgrade to revisit NI cuts. But don't expect it to happen.
