Jehovah’s Witnesses just changed their blood transfusion rules... AGAIN
Jehovah’s Witnesses just made one of the biggest changes to their blood transfusion policy... ever.
In Governing Body Update #6, Geoffrey Jackson announced that red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets, and plasma are now matters of personal conscience. Witnesses can even choose to donate blood for use in components or fractions.
Whole blood transfusions are still officially prohibited (for now). But in practice, this change opens the door to the most common blood transfusions actually used in modern medicine.
And that raises some serious questions...
Because just six months ago, the Governing Body changed its position on the use of a patient’s own stored blood.
Now, after what Geoffrey Jackson called “further prayerful consideration,” they’ve changed another major part of the blood doctrine... and this time, it's even bigger.

I’m genuinely glad this change could save lives and give doctors more options when treating Jehovah’s Witnesses.
But when an organization tells people that a medical decision violates God’s law, and people make irreversible life-and-death choices based on that teaching, changing the rule later raises questions that can’t simply be brushed aside as “new light.”
