Vyjádření projektu Zeptej se vědce k současné situaci v americké vědě
Milé čtenářky, milí čtenáři, již pár let přinášíme odpovědi na vaše otázky. Velká část našich odpovědí se opírá o výzkum, který se uskutečnil ve Spojených státech nebo který byl Spojenými státy podpořen. Řada našich spolupracovnic a spolupracovníků má za sebou badatelskou zkušenost v USA, kooperuje s tamními vědeckými institucemi či na nich přímo působí.
Tímto bychom chtěli vyjádřit podporu americké vědecké komunitě a dát najevo rozhořčení nad kroky současné americké administrativy, které vedou k destabilizaci tamního výzkumného prostředí. Jde především o rozsáhlé propouštění v rámci výzkumných center a masivní omezování finanční podpory pro vědu a vzdělání [1].

Lidi, se kterými jsem byla v USA minulý semestr, už jsou někteří bez stipendia (netýká se to - zatím - lidí z ČR, protože stipendia vyplácí Fulbrightova komise v Praze). Neumím si představit, jak stresující je tam najednou zůstat bez prostředků, spousta lidí si nemůže jen tak koupit letenku domů.

I am a big fan of 404 Media, but this is misleading at best. You can't post your way out of fascism, but you can and should organize, meet people and learn important info via social media. Doomscrolling is not activism, but activism can be done online and social media can be useful.

Same. As ECR, all my research is funded by grants. I wouldn't be able to pay for groceries if this happened to me. It's so scary. (And of course, we need publicly funded research to understand why this is happening, why democracy loses against authoritarianism. They don't want us to know).

The reason “cute winter boots” is taking off isn’t because it’s some secret code (the code has already been revealed and all of MAGA tiktok has made videos on it) it’s bc using product-focused language allows users to circumvent algorithmic downranking. They’re hijacking TikTok’s e-commerce push.

I see this all over my FYP now and it's so sad, but also an important reminder that social media play an important role in facilitating connections and mobilizing people. Banning an app is never about "protecting the kids" - it is about silencing the voices that someone does not want to be heard.
