Finished in 2026: The Seance of Blake Manor. Neat game about searching for clues and solving mysteries in a haunted hotel with a varied cast of characters. Some fun Irish mythology themes, too. And I’m always happy to see a video game include Gnosticism.

I’m just happy that people are talking about MGS2. Another great thing about Fatman is he’s actually tough to pin down because the roller blades make him really fast.

"If you hate GenAI you're going to have to stop playing new games when they all start using it" My brother in Christ, my backlog is literally thousands of games long. I have lifetimes worth of earlier titles to play, & I will gladly do that instead of boiling the oceans for a new CoD or whatever

Remarkable. MSNC: "I want to reiterate this has been 100% peaceful." Seconds later, LA County sheriffs start firing on the crowd. Yet again, "law enforcement" deliberately escalated.

Ok lets get into it then. Hi I'm Valentine, I was one of the employees who led most of the walkouts and who was part of the original group pushing for unionization at Blizzard, especially on the WoW team where I worked at the time.

Thinking about Gene Wolfe on bad reviews again

There used to be a man who published a very influential fanzine, a reviewzine, and he always gave me very bad reviews. The thing that he really hated about my work was that it was different from other works and it wasn’t the kind of thing that he was used to reading. He really resented that. I would write him and say, ‘There are thousands of books of the kind that you want, which are simple straightforward stories along story-lines that you have explored often before. The shelves in every bookstore in the world are groaning under these books. There are tons of them. Why does everything have to fit that?’ He wouldn’t tell me, but eventually I realised that as long as there was one book that didn’t fit, he felt threatened by that. Not all books were familiar comfortable things. There were these strange pseudo-books that might leap out at you and bite and suddenly make you think of things that you had never thought of before, regret a missed opportunity from thirty years ago, or whatever. He was very disturbed by that and very angry at me because I try and write that kind of book. PW: It seems strange that anyone would object to novels that challenge both conventions and the reader. GW: Well, it seemed to me strange at that time but I learned that it does happen and the fact that you tell people you shouldn’t do this, you shouldn’t feel this way, doesn’t have any effect. They continue to o it and they continue to feel as they feel.

Intergalactic looks so cool. I love the main character’s design! Plus it has one of my favorite video game traditions: an extremely silly subtitle. I remember you, Psy-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy.

why did this fancy dinner place in the middle of nowhere Kansas have a previously unknown Disco Elysium NPC on the wall

A photo of a painting hanging on a wall. The painting is of a man playing a harp and singing into a mic. The painting is in the style of Disco Elysium but does not seem to actually be connected to the game in any way.

So where did you get *your* copy of Wild Animus? Mine was handed to me by a person outside of San Diego Comic Con who described it, accurately, as “a free book.”

Can You Pet the Dog? @canyoupetthedog.com · 12/11/2024

Phantasmagoria (1995) was designed by Roberta Williams, who is not only a pioneer in video gaming but also a pioneer in video game dog petting; her work includes the some of the earliest graphical depictions of petting interactions, like King's Quest III (1986) and The Colonel's Bequest (1989).

A screencap from the 80s adventure game King's Quest 3. Inside a general store, a person stands in front of a dog. Text reads: "As you pet him, Kenny licks your hand and thumps his tail in appreciation. A small wad of dog fur collectsw in your hand, and you tuck it into your pocket for later use.

A screencap from the 80s adventure game The Colonel's Bequest, in which the protagonist leans down to pet a dog in the middle of a kitchen.
