Recovering baseball blogger. Used to write about baseball at USS Mariner (mostly), Baseball Prospectus (rarely), and probably a few places I’ve forgotten. Love music, Seattle sports, cooking.

This is what I remember Jay Feely for. He single-handedly lost New York the game vs. Seattle in 2005. Jeremy Shockey couldn’t believe it.

The shock about it came mostly from people who listen to top 40 radio/playlists. They knew every song on the charts *except* for #1 (& months ago, #1 and #2). It’s a perfectly fine song that broke records despite no radio play on pop stations. It says more about chart mechanics than listening habits

Good weekend aside from the Seahawks trap game loss. The Blue Hole near the confluence of the Ohanopecosh and Cowlitz (IYKYK), and a glassy Sound in Olympia for my youngest’s rowing regatta today.
A perfect mostly sunny morning looking north from Olympia on a glassy Puget sound. Priest point is in the middle ground to the right, and the Olympic mountains are in the background in the center and left. A river with bluish green water flows through a wide riverbed with rocks. There is a stone ledge on the right side, and a downed log to the left. The surface of the water shows its raining. The upper half of the image is the tall trees surrounding the river on both sides.

Weird, weird day for defensive pass interference in the NFL today. Have to say this one in the Ravens/Cowboys was bizarre.

I grew up with Rick Rizzs, and this has been a great send off, but holy crap that was looking like a super quick 9th inning for his simulcast on TV/Radio. Well done by Criswell for plunking a batter. Let it breathe a bit.

Welp, that was no good. An old, pre-major label track from Darnold there.

JSN is simply unguardable at this point. Unreal throw too, but the defender was all over him and it didn’t matter at all.

Caleb Williams out of the game on a non contact injury. Not good.

I can’t believe that two players were injured on this play, but neither of them was Aaron Rodgers.

In the late innings of Bosio’s no-hitter, I couldn’t stand the tension and it ended in a Taco Bell drive thru. I had the radio recording at home, and I’d play Niehaus’ call of that chopper to SS over and over. An all-time (good) memory of a player we used to hate.

So, if I'm reading this correctly, the Yankees just got through the 12th inning on... two pitches. Inning started with the Manfred Man on 2nd, then there was an intentional walk. So 2 men on base, no pitches. Then a pitch and a pickoff catching the guy on 2nd base. Then next pitch is hit into a DP.
Bottom 12th
Luke Keaschall headshot
Grounded Into DP
Luke Keaschall grounds into a double play, shortstop George Lombard Jr. to second baseman Anthony Volpe to first baseman Cody Bellinger. Brooks Lee out at 2nd. Luke Keaschall out at 1st. 3 Outs
Lee on 1st
Pickoff 2B
Pitcher John Schreiber picks off Ryan Kreidler at 2nd on throw to shortstop George Lombard Jr. 1 Out
Lee on 1st, Kreidler on 2nd
Brooks Lee headshot
Intent Walk
John Schreiber intentionally walks Brooks Lee.
Runner Placed On Base
Ryan Kreidler starts inning at 2nd base.

M’s going down with a whimper. Just abysmal couple of games in Anaheim, and really much of the last month. No matter what the rest of the AL West does, this team doggedly pursues elimination.

As a Bluesky old, thought I would put down some 9/11 remembrance. I was young but out of grad school and working an office job. I live(d) on the west coast so the initial strikes happened when I was asleep. My alarm was the local news, and in my partially asleep state, it took a while to sink in.

The Rams will be better than they are tonight, but maaaaannn did people get ahead of themselves with this year’s club.

Don’t think it qualifies as a *good* win, but I’m definitely happier with a win than a loss in that game.

I’ve been out of the country for a few weeks, enjoying a particularly well-timed break from Seattle sports (what happened, M’s?). Watching some Regionalliga in Berlin helps remind me that sports, even away from top leagues and TV money and all of that are simply great…

Had to have it, and they got it. Lots of room for improvement, but a walk-off win (and series win) ameliorates things.

I have been driving essentially all day, from southern Oregon to Olympia, and it’s been extremely weird weather-wise. Was rewarded with post-storm sunset, as much as the Sounders tried to spoil it.
Dramatic sunset with lots of orange. Darker clouds cloak the orange at the top and the right.

I have timed this just so; my pitching name is Floyd Gin. I would’ve been Floyd Mozzarella a little while ago, and that’s good, but what about the bag charge and the shallots and tomatoes? Are we being honest here?

M’s picked him up late in 1996 for a PTBNL, and he raked. Good go-for-it kind of pick-up; good process. It’s not like the minor leaguer was a hall of famer or anything. :checks earpiece: You are never gonna believe this…

I just feel for Flo Balogun. Scores twice in the opening game, Trump v. Barbara, a case in which the current admin is trying to strip citizenship from people exactly in his situation, is announced on June 30th in frustratingly ambiguous fashion, and then he’s red carded the following day.

Congrats to Norway, who not only have never been this far in a World Cup, but they have to suffer through English pronunciations of all of their names, which is surprisingly hard for English speakers. He’s used to it, his dad dealt with it, but Erling’s last name sounds nothing like “Holland”.
