As someone who is both a creative and has worked on improving AI algorithms, I would say that I also enjoyed the process of working on AI like I enjoy the process of doing intellectual work generally, and don't want AI to take it away. I think AI shouldn't be used to the detriment of human autonomy

Ground Effect xkcd.com/3305/
Comic. [Two people flailing high in the air. Three people on the ground running ahead of them. Arrows and a dotted line indicate that this second group is within roughly one body length of the surface.] [caption] The “ground effect” explains why sprinters can run most efficiently if they stay within roughly one body length of the surface.

The final state of the #boardgame shows the fellowship fleeing an overrun Lorien where they didn't have enough time to heal before becoming fully corrupted. The ents did what they could.

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang says basic math skills ‘don’t matter’ in AI era
Nvidia’s Jensen Huang commented on the eroding of basic math skills among children due to AI, and downplayed the impact.

I am usually excited about things I hear from NVIDIA, but this was definitely an exception.

If you don't teach students basic math, they will not be able to interact with AI effectively or at all meaningfully. If that were implemented on a wide scale, it would be disastrous.

It should be used to increase human understanding. If that isn't the point, then there isn't one. To ask well-formed questions is something that takes graduate students years to master. To understand what an AI is going to tell you in answer, you need to understand what it is talking about.

comp_phys_marc @marcusedwards.me · 30/09/2026
This idea Jensen Huang (NVIDIA) floated of children not needing to learn essential math skills in the #AI age... is just of exceptionally huge detriment to the human race. I am not anti-AI. I have worked in the field, advancing AI. But it should never be used to the detriment of human understanding.

It is very disturbing news. I also saw that book in the bookstore and thought it was so obviously inappropriate I was surprised it was published. I think some people don't understand that those situations are sometimes real and actually are very negative.

There were interesting posters too, one that stood out to me was an approach that scheduled operations in circuits to minimize hardware related error rates that correspond to particular states (i.e. of higher energy) and how long they exist during execution on the backend.

My favourite talks were about clifft (lnkd.in/gPEhMHjJ) and tzap (lnkd.in/g_qPegWv) which each took advantage of information about classical simulations to really optimize the required space and time for execution and circuit optimization, respectively.

comp_phys_marc @marcusedwards.me · 22/09/2026
There was a good combination of talks focussed on the classical compilation of quantum programs and on the quantum compilation. Many cool tricks were taken from classical compiling like polyhedral analysis to improve compilation that maintains program structure and applies optimizations.

Isaac Newton famously wrote “if I have seen further, it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.” Academic progress is always iterative and builds on the work of others, and a key component of academic culture is proper citation & attribution. It would be a travesty to let LLMs destroy that.

Approximate size (depending on how you’re viewing this) of a black hole with the same mass as the Earth. Formation mechanisms that could produce such a small black hole are purely hypothetical.
