5️⃣ Implementation dialogues To figure out what corporations want to change in EU laws via ‘stress-testing’, the Commission has gone for a simple option: to set up regular meetings to ask them what they want. 👉 corporateeurope.org/en/2025/07/c... @effat.org @eurocities.bsky.social @eeb.org
Title: ’Implementation Dialogues’: the privileged get more privileges
Subtitle: a dream scenario for the lobbyists
Drawign of a man in a suit, lying down with his arms folded under his head, eyes are cloed and a smile on his face.
There are though bubles with text where the following can be read: Each Commissioner will hold “implementation dialogues” with corporate lobby groups twice a year, to help the Commission set the course on deregulation. With 27 Commissioners, that entails up to 54 important consultations annually.
Another could of thought has the following writtin on it: They are dialogues with specific objectives – including “simplification and burden reduction” – and they set up to identify business concerns. In that sense, the set-up suggests the dialogues will be dominated by corporate lobby groups.
At the bottom, the conclusion: The implementation dialogues are developing, and they are set to become a key vehicle to deregulation.

4️⃣ Stress-testing Imagine wanting to go through all EU laws to make them more ‘simple’! That is what the European Commission wants to do. They call it ‘stress-testing’. If something appears too burdensome, it could be axed. 👉 corporateeurope.org/en/2025/07/c... @caneurope.org @arbeiterkammer.at
Title: Stress-testing: destroying past achievements
A photo of von der Leyen and on the left it says “what they say”, on the right “what it actually means”. On the what they say side, a speech buble to von der Leyen with the quote: "We plan to stress-test the entire EU Acquis to eliminate any overlaps and contradictions while maintaining high standards", quote dated from July 2024.
On the What it actually means side, a speech buble pointo to von der Leyen says: All EU laws will be scrutinised to make life “simpler” for companies.
At the bottom, the conclusion:
That means not even hard won gains from the past – things like chemicals safety or labour rights – are safe from this destructive drive.

2️⃣ Simplification While proposing to weaken one protective law after the other, the Commission keeps saying all they do is make things more ‘simple’. Well, there is already plenty of evidence to the contrary. Lots of damaging deregulation underway. 👉 corporateeurope.org/en/2025/07/c...
Title: Simplification: it is about deregulation
Subtitle: "What's in a name? That which we call a rose, by any other word would smell as sweet” Romeo and Juliet
Photo de Valdis Dombrovskis, a caption saying: Valdis Dombrovskis, Commissioner for Economy and Productivity; Implementation and Simplification, five different speech bubles point to him saying: simplification is not deregulation
In a big font and all caps is written: BUT and a quote: “Simplification is a regulatory system based on trust and incentives rather than detailed control in mind”, quote from The Competitiveness Compass, January 2025
At the bottom, the conclusion: If the Commission thinks trust is enough to fulfil policy objectives, it is being highly unrealistic. From climate change to the 2008 financial crisis, to Dieselgate, we are not lacking in examples of the disastrous results that can be the result of approaches based on trust not enforcement.

1️⃣ Competitiveness The strongest word in the EU is ‘competitiveness’. Whenever corporate lobby groups claim they are losing out globally, decision-makers feel bound to act in their interests. We need to see this for what it is: myopic, short-termism. Don’t be impressed when they say ‘competitiveness’
Image on a green background and the title: Competitiveness: the mantra that trumps everything
Subtitle: A buzzword to set off all our alarm bells
The plastics industry, battery producers, and the pharmaceutical industry agree it would be supportive for their competitiveness to stave off a ban on PFAS.
But the cost to society of keeping PFAS in production are enormous – in terms of both suffering and pollution, but also in terms of healthcare and clean-up costs paid by the public
In bold: While it sounds as if there is some sort of deep economic science behind competitiveness, in reality it just means all priorities must be subsumed to business interests.
Under the text, there is the image of a big businessman speaking on a megaphone, and two smaller protesters holding a sign that says: lies
