South Africa Trade Union Confederation COSATU's Tanya van Meelis warns against the EU-South Africa #CTIP and its push for green hydrogen leading to a new energy colonialism "it must not replicate the exploitative patterns of the past" Claudia Azevedo from the Jacques Delors think tank (who used to work at DG TRADE) comments on the ongoing #CTIP negotiations. She calls for:
- civil society + parliament involvement in negotiations
- sustainability commitments to be included
- explicit inclusion of free prior and informed consent DG TRADE's Dora Correia responds to comments on the #CTIP by saying very little of substance that's not already in existing documents.
Avoids criticisms brought up by South Africa's communities or trade unionists. Says the EU is responding to a call by South Africa ("not our fault, gov").
