Why don't you want to work for consultancies? There are lots of environmental consultancies that do great conservation work, often filling in capacity gaps for overworked government and ENGO offices. Lots of small, local consultancies out there too if your concern is with getting lost in Corporate.

All three tads have front legs now! Here's pics of the oldest and youngest tads from today. The oldest tad is visibly smaller, and its tail is about 40% of the size of the youngest one, as it has not eaten for about 2 weeks now while it reabsorbs its tail, and changes its mouth type

gorgeous! our potted plants only exist in the living room so that has constrained how many we can have. this was an intentional constraint, but i still managed to accumulate 45+ pots of plants lol. whoopsies.

you should! i didnt start with any orange shrimp but now i have one thats super bright orange. it was cool. it definitely keeps my attention more than single colour shrimp tanks.

some of the different coloured shrimp from my 7g cube. Getting a skittles mix of shrimp colours has created some pretty fun iSpy moments in the tank. I'd say about 15% of the shrimp are wild-type, while the rest have a veriety of fun colours and patterns. I'd recommend it!

An update on my office aquarium 🐟 I dont love the wood placement (need to add or remove a piece), but I'm liking the addition of the red tiger lotus, as I think the fish and shrimp feel bolder with the shade and cover it provides. Left is how it looks today, right is how it looked in December.

whats the worst that could happen if you do it wrong? maybe you have to do it again a little bigger, but thats it. the consequences of failing are inconsequential. you should watch a few videos, and just patch the knees. here's some sashiko my partner did to patch the holes on my jean knees :)

10 years is a long time for change to happen haha. i started in the hobby 8 years ago and the cost of aquatic plants has doubled since then. i think part of it is also because aquascaping has grown as a hobby, and skews premium, so demand stays high despite higher prices, so high prices persist
010
Angie @mapcake.bsky.social · 29/01/2026
inflation. also, most of the price hikes have been driven by the luxury side of the hobby. your basic rimmed aquarium+sponge filter is still pretty affordable, even new. that said, you can still build a small tank for <$100 if you source your equipment secondhand, and hardscape from outside.
