My first real attempt at hand-polishing amber! Watching this piece of raw Dominican amber (about 20 million years old) slowly transform and reveal itself as beautiful blue amber was such a rewarding experience. Every piece has a surprise waiting inside. #fossil #amber #gemstone #lapidary

My #DIY amber #fossil display. It was fun turning a shadow box into a light box Riker case. I set up a little #JurassicPark themed Alexa routine to turn it on, but I've got an idea to improve it with a little extra hardware—and maybe by teaching myself a little basic coding. #maker #paleontology

Had a fun day out! Kicked things off with a fossil hunt with the Dallas Paleontological Society, did a little Halloween shopping, got my delivery of Sam Neill’s autographed photo, & wrapped things up by rearranging part of my Jurassic Park collection display. #FossilHunting #JurassicPark #Halloween

This little crustacean may not look like much, but it's one of the most interesting additions to my Burmese amber collection. Preserved inside is what appears to be a sea slater (Ligia cf. exotica), a relative of modern isopods. #Fossils #Amber #Paleontology #BurmeseAmber #PrehistoricLife

~99 million years ago, Mother Nature made a horror film in tree resin: • beetle (our hero) • decaying—maybe zombified—cockroach • a well-fed tick + possible parasitic nematode No way to know exactly what happened… but it wasn’t a great day. And yes—there may have been some light chestbursting. 😅

99myo, this antlion was a pint-sized apex predator… And though this tiny terror never reached its final winged form, it tumbled into a kind of immortality—perfectly preserved in amber. Wrapped in a rainbow, with ancient water bubbles (enhydros)… all thanks to a rainy day and a prehistoric conifer.
