I started fundraising for Little Death's print run independently because I had no other option as an indie cartoonist living in a fascist wave of politics and economics. Little Death is eroguro, and I'm trans, and while these things are what give my art identity, in the world of capitalism, these things are held against me. After over a half decade of mapping support networks, and building collaborative relationships with others in the industry, it became more and more obvious that erotic/dark work, in combination with being authored by trans people, are the lowest priority for most comics institutions and businesses. I got tired of trying to jump through flaming hoops for scattered crumbs that would be taken away later. I had fans who wanted my books, I had a Chapter 3 to work on, and I did not want the next decade of my career to be defined by the door behind slammed in my face.
I learned how to make my own website, shop, and fundraiser, unable to wait around for insecure people, unwilling to let me participate in my own business, or find me and my business worth their while. My worth is encoded in community.
I asked my fellow comic creators and community organizers to support me and teach me, and didn't compromise on my ethics or art. I also understand this project is bigger than me.
4% of all profits at my shop will be donated to the Free Speech Coalition. I need your help to see this project through, to end this chapter, and begin the next. Your purchase of a book counts as a raffle ticket and puts you in the running for the Grand Prize and Runner Up! Don't wait, because the Raffle closes 09/30, 12:00 EST!
