I haven’t been this excited for a bubble to burst since I was a toddler.

Headline in the Independent: "Reeves’ ‘mansion tax’ would stall home sales and fuel exodus of super-rich, experts warn" I don't see how an exodus of the "super-rich" is a bad thing. Their mere existence is an indication of their parasitism on the economy, the sooner we are rid of them, the better.

For those of you who are members of #ASSAP, there are some important motions that have been submitted to the upcoming AGM. It's quite possible that the current executive board will try to expel members for submitting these, they can be read here: we.tl/t-5QZTGHfLMO

I guess it's actor Troy McClure, from when I stole this meme earlier today.
Hi, I'm Troy McClure, you probably remember me from reacts such as, "what the fuck is that?", "Why did I have to see this?" and "I miss 20 seconds ago when I didn't know this shit existed."

I think it's pretty clear that their money appears to be coming from the same sources. Who stands to gain from disrupting Western liberal democracies in this way, I wonder? Cui bono, cui bono, cui bono, always cui bono.

Hindsight can be a terrible thing. At the time, I thought I'd never get the approximately £80 I spent on USB ASIC miners back, and I only got them as a curiosity. I should have just bought bitcoin and been done with it.

Wish I hadn't already cashed out the approximately 0.1 BTC I mined about a decade ago (when you could still do such things on a home PC with an inexpensive USB key). On balance though, I managed to do so before the value has fallen to zero. I'd absolutely not recommend anyone get involved now.

I'm struggling very hard to find any sympathy for the obscenely rich people who have had £10.4M of hideous jewellery stolen, including a watch that looks like it has been pebble-dashed and a horrible bracelet that wouldn't be out of place in an Argos catalogue. www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2024...

It would be incredibly boring if every podcast was the same, and every interview was formatted and edited in the same way. I really enjoyed your Christmas episode, and it was obvious Danny did too, because when we were getting his booked signed at the Hay Winter Festival he couldn't keep it secret.

"Biggest" in this case clearly means dullest, most derivative, and free from any intelligent content. I've never felt the need to actually watch a second of that sort of drivel. The clips I've seen of supposed "best bits" of this sort of programme confirm that I've made the right decision.

My head hurts reading the Israeli interpretations of Irish history. It’s disturbing to see so much pseudohistory deployed in order to [as our president noted] declare everyone Irish, everywhere, ‘antisemitic’.

In Old Scandinavia, a “Julenek”, a sheaf of grain kept over from the summer’s harvest, was left out for the birds at #Christmas. Farmers believed this tradition, known as the “Remembrance of Birds”, would ensure good luck, and a plentiful harvest the following year. #FolkloreThursday
Oil on canvas painting of a sheaf of oats, bundled together and mounted on a pole. The sheaf is covered with small, European birds, such as sparrows, and finches, enjoying the seed. Behind is a snowy landscape with a farm building just visible in the background on the right hand side. The painting is by the artist Johann Siegwald Dahl.

What we're missing here is implemented by custom feeds. You can add your own, with a little bit of technical know-how, and there are some reasonably good guides out there. There will be feeds that become popular over time, which many users will subscribe to, they will become the de-facto algorithm.

If I were doing a journalism I feel I’d be focussing less on Badenoch’s eccentric views on sandwiches and more on the fact that she regards people from the (mainly Muslim) north of Nigeria as her “ethnic enemies” who she resents being “lumped” together with www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
Badenoch interview in the Spectator:
Badenoch is, however, ready to fight. Her Nigerian heritage often comes up in conversations about her straight-talking style. But she says this misses the point. ‘I find it interesting that everybody defines me as being Nigerian. I identify less with the country than with the specific ethnicity [Yoruba]. That’s what I really am. I have nothing in common with the people from the north of the country, the Boko Haram where the Islamism is, those were our ethnic enemies and yet you end up being lumped in with those people.’
Badenoch is proud of her Yoruba heritage. It’s given her a ‘very strong identity about who you are, where you come from, traditions and so on’ – including her maiden name, Adegoke. ‘Somebody once told me when I was very young that my surname was a name for people who were the warriors. They protected the crown and that’s what I see myself as doing. I am here to protect and I will die protecting this country because I know what’s out there.’
