i posted about it, including a zip with the font and license this also means you can get it through me even if they remove it because that's how the MIT license works chcl.se/2026/07/17/comic-sans.html
chcl.se
Comic Sans is MIT now
This post is a bit rushed and written with nano directly on the server, as I am on vacation, but when Microsoft published Comic Chat as open source yesterday they also included an era appropriate version of Comic Sans. It's available directly in the repo, under commit f53e4b6, under "v1.0/shared/comic.ttf". I've taken the liberty of exercising my rights under the license, and have uploaded a copy, together with the LICENSE, so you can also get a copy even if they remove it. You can download it here. A quick legal disclaimer, so far, no statement has been made that this was done by accident, and Microsoft does own this font, so they can just release this. IANAL, but if they'd wish to claim this was an accident and that everyone should delete the files, they'd need to inform everyone - copyright law, or even contract law, does not require you to be a psychic, or second guess every license you accept, especially for something as low-value as a font from 1996. If Microsoft wishes to contact me, the link is at the bottom of the page.

my brother & his partner are telling me an insane story about this local deity called "st. rat" which is apparently a mosaic relief put up by some queers in seattle. the city kept trying to paint over it, but people would repeatedly just use acetone and remove the paint until the city gave up

At what point does it become economical to spray your modules with water? If you already have something like a rainwater tank I'd imagine it would work quite well.

The shift from 'owning things' to 'renting access to things' is the most boring dystopia. Nobody announced it. It just happened one Terms of Service update at a time.

People don't long for "inconvenience." They long for permanence. And though streaming services may be convenient, people are waking up to the fact that we are paying rent-seeking middle men month after month for things we will never actually own.

I've also released its source code, stems, project files, and Reaper JSFX! There are some clever tricks involved in fitting notes, envelopes, samples, and a lot of effects (including variants of Chroma and au5's Ultracomb) into such a tiny space. git.sr.ht/~parallax/chromatite
Four of the different applications involved in taking [chromatite] from a REAPER project to a 32KB executable music app. On the top-left is the original REAPER project. On the bottom-left, the REAPER JSFX editor showing the plugin for an "Ultraflanger": "inspired by au5's Ultracomb, but I got distracted and made it all out of scrolling flangers instead". On the bottom-right, Python code translating the REAPER project to C++ arrays. Finally, on the top-right, Visual Studio (this project's old enough that it targeted Windows) shows the executable project open at source code for a Reese bass.

[chromatite_32k].exe, my color drum 'n' bass track in the form of a 31,744 byte executable, is finally finished and online at echoparallax.bandcamp.com/album/chr…! It also includes its hi-fi version, B-side star_struck, and art by the incomparable @transendium.bsky.social!
The cover art for the single "[chromatite] / star_struck", by echo~parallax. It's a sort of abstract, glitchy representation of a dark mineral. Perhaps it's like a cave with stalactites and stalagmites, but if you ran your finger across one of them you'd feel hard cubical edges. In some places there is subtle chromatic aberration.

Remember to update the firmware on those drives, the early 990PRO firmware was quite unstable, especially with Linux. After those upgrades they're nice, though.

Digital audio mixing is always a nightmare because of the different free-running clocks. I'm guessing it'll suck regardless of the solution I pick :D

Daaaaaamn, that's nice! With BlueSCSI, AWE64 Gold and my CD-ROM drive all outputting SPDIF, I guess I really need some sort of digital mixer to get the most out of that *hmm*

if that's too heavy, you could also just send me an IPv4 address via DM, if you are comfortable with that.
000
Manawyrm @manawyrm.de · 05/02/2026
eh, that's not ideal. If you're a customer, could you open a ticket, ideally with an mtr from both sides and maybe the IP addresses involved in that?

yeah, it might actually recover and get back to normal capacity. but the parameters degrade severely for sure. such a battery left me stranded a month ago m)

Manawyrm @manawyrm.de · 05/02/2026
yes, it will destroy them. especially if left at those voltages. even if you charge it (which will probably work) you might see much higher internal resistance and/or single damaged cells, which will cause lower voltage (and not starting car in the winter)

nah, it's actually communicating, same as many Android phones would do it, just over the D-/D+ lines. It's just a protocol incompatibility (and that device is doing what it's supposed to)

Manawyrm @manawyrm.de · 30/01/2026
Not sure if it's such a good idea. Some of those power supplies will a) cause re-negotiation when one device is plugged-in/out b) might deliver different voltages (very dependent on the firmware of the USB-C trigger board)
