favourite bit from the MR James biography so far is finding out he discovered a random manuscript from Yorkshire with 12 medieval ghost stories in it

This amazing find inspired me to make this wee illustration, I found it very evocative to imagine the early medieval churchyard at Govan could be a hive of activity and craft workers. Not just stone carving but jewellery as well
an illustration of a woman in early medieval clothing working on a piece of shale jewellery, in the top right corner is an enlarged depiction of the piece she is working on- a lump of shale being worked with a hole in the centre perhaps in the process of making a ring

bought a new biography about MR James, all the stuff about upper class Victorian era boarding schools is a hard read tbh felt like some kind of From Hell incantation where the spirit of jimmy savile flows through everything in this country for century after century

Out digging in Glasgow’s East End where we have now uncovered the lost East wall of Harvie’s Dykes - the site of some radical history! We’ve been getting some great finds, there’s still time to visit the excavations - before lunchtime today! @archscot.bsky.social #GBPT @glasgowcc.bsky.social

Two panel comic. Panel 1: a whale fall lies at the bottom of the ocean. The bones are covered in a variety of bottom feeders and ocean critters. Panel 2: closer up, the group of bottom feeders are holding red solo cups and chatting with each other. Among the group is a tiger prawn, who thinks to himself, “I needed this…”

Here's a drawing I made of one of my favourite saga characters the warrior-poet Egill Skallagrimsson
a black and white illustration of the tenth century Icelandic warrior poet Egill Skallagrimsson, in the drawing he has hauled up a decapitated horse head as part of a cursing spell against the kings of Norway that have wronged his family around him depicted in serpent form are the spirits of the land unsettled by his spell

that Ocarina of time remake looks hideous ... actually made me think about it in the context of that redundant silent hill 2 remake where the limitations of technology in the original game actually led to much stronger art design and atmosphere over fidelity to "realism"

Probably would have been drier to swim, but the site of the viking burial mound at Kingscross Point, overlooking Lamlash Bay on Arran, is worth the trek. A furnished cremation grave was excavated here in 1909, and has been dated to the mid/late ninth century
A photo of the viking burial site at Kingscross Point, Lamlash, Arran, during a cloudy, rainy day. Holy Isle is visible in the bay, and the cloud-covered Goatfell range is seen in the distance.

being at work and having someone randomly whispering at me about someone astral projecting into an eagle to mate with another eagle and how this was wrong made me feel like i was in game of thrones and also added onto the time I needed to recharge to be amongst people again considerably

Palestinian artist Sliman Mansour, giant of resistance art, dies aged 79 aje.news/2xzmvt
Suleiman Mansour was among the Arab world’s most renowned visual artists and the creator of the iconic Palestinian painting Mount of the Bearers. [Courtesy of Sliman Mansour]Rituals under Occupation (1989), one of Suleiman Mansour’s most prominent works, captures the suffering of Palestinians living under occupation and their daily resilience. In this oil painting, a highly symbolic funeral scene unfolds: vast crowds carry the coffin of a Palestinian, draped in the Palestinian flag and depicted as a large cross, evoking the Christian narrative of the crucifixion of Christ. @downham.bsky.social Hey there I was working on a wee talk about Strathclyde and was trying to check, do you think the mention of the king of the Norwegians raiding Strathclyde in the Fragmentary Annals of Ireland is a Norse king from the Irish sea zone rather than the literal king of Norway?

@phil-lol-ogist.bsky.social I made some art inspired by the tale of Thorstein Shiver that I thought you might like ...

biggest dilemma for giving a talk that touches on Norse myth for the sake of clarity and simplicity do I just refer to the Jotnar as giants even though I disagree with that interpretation in general

I think this is my favourite Pictish carving, the utter confidence in the line with what its depicting, a close breathing familiarity to the natural world. Is it a tribal marker? Showing where these animals are found bountiful? Just a sheer joy of expression, a gratitude to these beings existing?

Was funny thinking back to the Vikings tv series and the influence it had in presenting a certain sexy image of the Vikings when initially what I was most impressed with was them depicting how pathetic and disturbing the Lindisfarne raid actually was with defenceless old men being killed/enslaved
