Last month we went to a Ukrainian restaurant and saw this in the bathroom. I assume demand for your linked sticker will be much broader

Tioga would like to play ball, please. If anyone's available this afternoon, swing on by. I have to work.

I'll be going to a Canadien's home game next month, so I think that means I have to become a fan. This is fine; I really like the Québécois. Anyway, if the Sharks and Les Hebs meet in the playoffs I'll be rooting against you. Please remember: it's not personal. It's just sports.

They should invent anxiety that sucks less. At the very least you should be able to change *how* it sucks from time to time. As a treat.

Tioga is the best dog. We had to give him a new home last year, but his new primary people let us visit or, in this case, let him come to our house for a couple weeks of "vacation". We love him so much.

I have a coworker in the home office today. Not very good with computer work, but he does raise morale.

Set Wide the Window. Let Me Drink the Day. Glacier National Park, Montana
From a dark room, a mountain landscape is visible through a white-framed window flanked by green checked curtains. A map hangs on the wall to the right.Sunlit, rocky peaks rise above a forested valley under large white clouds. Small patches of snow remain near the central summit.

Tioga is at our house for a little vacation, so I'm just letting you know that there may be many dog pictures posted here for the next couple weeks.

according to a quick internet search. For me, a guy in his late 40s in 2026 America, I am drawn much more strongly to Vonnegut's melancholy thousand words than to Rand's strident tens of thousands. Kindness and wisdom, on the scale we can practice them, won't fix everything, but they can fix a lot.

That's, once again, a line from Cat's Cradle. It's part of a speech given to commemorate the One Hundred Martyrs to Democracy. The speech is about 1000 words long. For some reason, while reading it I thought about John Galt's speech from Atlas Shrugged. It clocks in at about 30,000 words

I also want to mention that seeing how things have changed over the last couple weeks, after a long period of more or less predictable pattern of fountaining, has felt pretty special. There's an emotional resonance, alongside the scientific fascination.

I'm still keeping an eye on Kilauea, waiting for fountaining episode 55. Overflows are happening again, now from the top of a cone that has built up over the past couple weeks. Are these precursors to the big event? Dunno, but it's neat! www.youtube.com/watch?v=HggW...

I've watched quite a few youtube videos where bands on tour stop by the local radio station studio to play a short set. Nobody does it better than KEXP. Head and shoulders above the rest. (Incidentally, I'm finally ready to appreciate this masterpiece. Thanks, Merlin) youtu.be/wb0fW8yQCHc?...

Had a terrifying thought this morning: what if happiness and personal fulfilment depends on something besides having just the right travel power/charging setup? probably best not to think about it too much.

I opened the Notes app on my ipad and found many delightful artefacts of the past. One was a note from 2016 called "My Doctor Who Ratings" with one entry: The Empty Child: negative infinity I'd prob. rate it higher, but it's an understandable rating for an ep. that gave an 8 year old nightmares.

It doesn't have to be a notes app, specifically. A good pdf reader/editor would work, if it is free or has a lifetime license option; I don't want to sign up for another eel.

I've been using Goodnotes to annotate pdfs for some projects on my ipad. Recently many of the files in my database have broken, showing only annotated blank pages (see pic). So I'm looking to switch apps. Anybody have recommendations? (I know, the handwriting is very bad. New apps can't fix that.)

Friendly reminder: Please don't drop into someone's replies, guns blazing. You're not going to have the impact you want by insulting strangers, unless the impact you want is making strangers sad or angry. If that's why you're online, grow up. It's not cool to be a dick in your free time.

You're right, but dang it, I still struggle with the fact that SpaceX is doing really cool stuff with rockets while being led/owned by *that guy* of all people. Incidentally, I'm always a little surprised by this Einstein fact. I guess I think of him as a historical brain, not as a rounded person.

really sucks how much social media (even just text based ones) has fragmented....bluesky has lib chopped uncs...substack notes has annoying writers...threads and twitter have all the really mentally ill people. That used to be all in one place!

I finally looked into the etymology of the word peon, and it turns out that it has nothing to do with a class so low that they were peed on, as I thought when I first encountered the word as a ten year old.

(un?)Fortunately, it only turned out to be a 20 min delay. I've just boarded in Denver so there was a possibility of actual views out on those decks at the end of the terminal, if only I had more time!

Subtweet at the company that put out the corporate presentation I'm looking at right now: pyrite does not have cleavage planes, so don't go putting that in your corporate materials. It makes you look bad.

The world would be a better place if more people treated airports like a little liminal vacation than an obstacle between point A and point B. (Exceptions will be granted for those really short connections that make one hurry.)

Tiger got to hunt, Bird got to fly; Man got to sit and wonder, "Why, why, why?" Tiger got to sleep, Bird got to land; Mans got to tell himself he understand. That's real good, and I feel like it's one of those Truths that justifies fiction.
