This feels like the octopus equivalent of a cat hiding in a pile of laundry. 🐙📷manelor (www.inaturalist.ca/observations...)
A Common Octopus (Octopus vulgaris) hiddin in the middle of a pile of bivalve shells (one half), presumably a midden pile constructed by the octopus. The shells are different colour and in different orientations, but they all have the same shape, with ridges that go back to front. Some of the shells that are upside down have rocks, sediment and others shells in them. The octopus just has its eyes visible, and it has grey skin with some dark bits. The sea floor around it is sandy, but it might be a coarse grain (hard to tell with the scale)

👁️⬭👁️ 🐙📷Ginni Callahan (www.inaturalist.ca/observations...)
A female Noury's Argonaut (Argonauta nouryi) being held by a person in an orange bucket. The octopus is in its "shell". The "shell" is actually an egg case and is white and bumpy. It forms a spiral shape but that is not visible in the photo. The photo is showing the opening where the octopus is. The octopus is a dark red, almost purple, colour with white flesh that just peeks out behind the chromatophores. It has most of its body in the "shell" and its arms are reaching backwards into the shell, exposing the bottom of its arms. The offset two rows of suckers are visible. Its eye is just peeking out from the shell on the left side, at it has a round pupil. On the front right, its siphon is poking out from between its arms and its opening its sort of shaped like a gridiron football, making it look a mouth. If you see the siphon as a mouth, it makes the octopus have a confused, dazed expression.

Did you know that fossil records show that Clippy is a descendant of the ancient ammonite Diplomoceras maximum? 🐚📷Franz Anthony @franzanth.bsky.social
An artist's impression of a Diplomoceras. The ammonite has a long shell that goes out straight, then does a U turn, then goes straight and then U turns, and so on and so on. Its shell resembles a giant paper clip or a trombone. At the opening is a the head and arms and it resembles a squid. It has lots of arms, a big round eye and even a siphon. The flesh is beige with some brown, and the bell is white with large yellow patches. The shell has lots of ridges that go around the width of the shell.

A Southern Reef Squid (Sepioteuthis australis) swimming and facing the camera. It is in an almost vertical position, with its arms together and hanging down. Its fins are flapping. The squid is a yellowish brown with dark brown chromatophores all over and iridescent areas around the eyes. It looks pretty cute. The background is the sea floor with lots of sand and sea grass.
