iiinova — where your digital self keeps evolving

Oh man, sometimes the thrift stores light up a part of my magpie brain like nothing else. I found a cute cake/bakery stand with top, decorative vase, and a wall clock! 🤩

Yesssss!! If you want, I have a few I’ve been to in the area or could ask some friends for extra recs!

This is the second album I bought and also the second album of Infinity Song’s that I own. They are a sibling group and this self-titled album is more soft rock (e.g., Elton John, Fleetwood Mac, Dave Matthews) and soul, but there are some songs with funky bass lines thrumming through them.

Album art for Infinity Song’s self-titled album.

I got new records yesterday from a local shop. Parlor Greens is an organ trio that does a fusion of soul, jazz, and funk. Purely instrumental and this album (“Emeralds”) features a GREAT cover of Jolene.

Anyone have recommendations for music they listen to when they need help getting pumped back up and feeling themselves without inner teenager rage?

I’m feeling particularly fragile after therapy this morning. My parents are visiting for the first time since our move to PDX and get in around 2. M and Little sister are a big source of support, but sis doesn’t get in until 8:30.

I cannot stop thinking about this book. I enjoyed the prose, the blending of sci-fi and mysticism/spirituality as a way to make sense of the world, and messages around empathy, generational trauma, and the othering of people for profit's sake. It just hits you in waves without bowling you over.

I started and finished this on the layover and flight from Seattle to Portland. It was short, but SO. GOOD. It flowed and crept under my skin like a Ted Chiang short story and I will absolutely be buying a physical copy.

"Fun" little piece of personal lore: My dad sent me an email when I was 18 (~2005) with the subject "Good News For People Who Love Bad News" to let me know that he had had a heart attack while on vacation with my mom and little sister (I was taking summer courses and stayed home)

Magen Wu @magpi.bsky.social · 01/10/2026

I hadn't listened to Modest Mouse's "Good News For People Who Love Bad News" in YEARS, but have it on regular rotation lately. This morning, though, it struck me how heavily "This Devil's Workday" seems influenced by Tom Waits and I LOVE it.

I love local coffee shops—but ESPECIALLY when traveling. This morning a barista hooked me up with her favorite coffee (iced quad shot white chocolate mocha with brown butter cold foam) and gave me recommendations for dinner based on food and vibes.

Trash. Dem senators never voted to curtail coaches' salaries, even though the highest paid government employee in most states is a college football or basketball coach.🤡 Dem Senators never passed a law to protect the labor rights of these Black kids, but they pass this law to remove them?🤡

The sunrise during this morning’s workout was STUNNING. I stood on the side of the street and just stared while the neighborhood was beginning to wake up.

I've had whatever the Mandela Effect equivalent of "being *convinced* I have an album on vinyl in a record store, but then see in Libib (and at home) that I actually do not have it" multiple times this month. 😭

I signed up for a 20-mile #MammothMarch hike in March with a friend and this is week 1 of preparing for it. Yesterday was stretching/active recovery and today was a short lower-body workout followed by a 20 minute briskly-paced walk and more stretching all before the sun started to rise.

Pro tip: when wanting a good breakfast (ex: a frittata), but don’t want to wake up your partner who is still asleep, just cook it the night before. Otherwise your fire alarm WILL go off at 5:45am for the first time since moving into the house. For this and more housekeeping tips, follow me. 🫠🫠🫠

I’m REALLY looking forward to making pour overs with these beans this weekend. I started to a habit of making a pour over when I wake up early on the weekends and read or journal. Then when M wakes up I make him a cup (and myself another) and we hang out and read next to one another.

I had some time this morning, so instead of looking for a random #tarot spread to use for tonight’s full moon, I made my first one based on the where Leo (rising) and Aquarius (sun) fall in my birth chart in honor of the eclipse season and nodal transits in those signs.

Tarot spread! First 3 cards on bottom row and 4th card above the second.
1. What stories do I tell about myself that need to be changed or dropped?
2. Where do I need to be less “me” focused and more “we” or “us” focused?
3. How can I grow into my abilities as a leader?
4. By de-centralizing myself, how can I co-create a better future?
Alternative #4
4. How can sharing the spotlight improve things for my community?

What do you want to see from the @defcon.bsky.social Groups (DCG) team in the upcoming year? Like, seriously. What could we do that would be helpful to y'all or show the most support from DEF CON? And what do you hope to get out of visiting the DEF CON Groups area at con?

So with the ever-increasing character limit in forums like Twitter, Mastodon, Bluesky, etc. and longer TikToks and Reels, is there (or has there been) a resurgence in other long-form content like blogs, YouTube vids, etc.?
