Anyone think it's weird that Japan still censors minors smoking this way? At least in the U.S. when they had someone underage smoke, it was with the intent of showing WHY that's a bad idea. In Japan it's like "There's something going on in this guy's mouth...we can't SAY what it is!"

Idk much about this HP trend going on with artists, but it seems noticeable that none of the people I know irl who are still HP fans (I.e. people I see at work) have brought it up at all. I don’t know what that means, though.

In spite of being of the correct generation to have grown up while "Peanuts" was still in active publication, it's always a little surreal to be reminded that the most popular comic strip in the English-speaking world for fifty solid years was about an eight-year-old with clinical depression.

i think the biggest thing i have to say on this dumbass art trend is that you cultivate your audience based on what you draw and how you act so do not be surprised if you follow a trend drawing fanart of an exclusionary franchise and now your audience is a bunch of shitheads while others leave

Today would've been the sixty-fifth birthday of Yu-Gi-Oh! creator Kazuki Takahashi. It tends to get swallowed up in the enormous franchise it became, but I truly believe that his original manga can provide a valuable lesson to artists about process and work and improvement over time.

Probably should have read this after finishing Phantom Blood, given that there's a section called "Why I Killed Off [Spoiler]." But this was pretty insightful. A lot of overlap with some of the writing books I was reading during the summer, with some added parts related to art, which is useful.

Suddenly more grateful that my parents had me memorize my address and phone number as a kid back in the 1990s. And for my English teacher in high school going "Don't use abbreviations in text, or it will leak into your actual writing."

Toto @magicaldogtoto.bsky.social · 26/09/2026

Knowing that Hanokage worked with only the scripts for the show plus some character designs does make it a bit obvious what was in the actual text and what was just the animation going off. That alone makes it a fascinating read imo.

Something I realized after reading all of Hellboy is that, in the grand scheme of things, Prince Nuada is basically one of those filler villains you see in anime movies. He has no presence in the original continuity but his goals are similar to a canon villain.
