that's why, in all this restorative justice talk, you can't sincerely expect the answer you want from “how would you feel if you perpetrated this crime?” if asked of people who would either never even consider doing that or people who, if they had, wouldn't be around for the 10 years later exposure.

Do we, as the left, believe in forgiveness at all? I'm actually asking, I guess it's ok if not. This guy educates his viewers, and moves them left. We talk about wanting a joe rogan of the left, people come to him for roller coaster tycoon or whatever, and get leftism. Is one strike all it takes? Honestly asking, if everyone agrees then fine, but can a kid do something horrible then spend a decade doing good and make up for it? How many of us actually care about outcomes, how many of us are out for blood because it feels like helping, because normal people have a new tool, the cancel, and we're drunk with power. Do we cancel as many people as we can, or should we be selective? We all need to think about this, not even sure where I come down, but we need to think about it.

*SCREAMS* He has done NOTHING re: “reforming, rehabilitating [him]self”. This boils down to “yes it is “bad” but is it soooooo bad that it makes ME a bad person IF I WANT TO IGNORE IT”. YES! The answer to that implied question is “YES! You ARE a BAD person for WANTING to ignore it!”
On Twitter and Bluesky, the same disagreement appears in harsher language, where, for some people, the revelation permanently determines Geller's moral identity. And for others, treating a person as reducible to the worst thing he has ever done makes the language of reform almost meaningless. After all, if Geller isn't a relevant moral example to consider, then what, exactly, do we mean when we imagine people reforming, rehabilitating themselves?

Also? Only liberal centrists want a Joe Rogan of the left. I personally don’t want someone as dumb, egotistical and self absorbed as Rogan as a model of anything. And I don’t give a fuck if a guy writes and says pretty words. I CARE ABOUT WHAT THEY DO! This is the Platner shit all over again.

How about this: NO ONE CAN CALL THEMSELVES A LEFTIST IF THEY DONT RESPECT WOMEN! I’m tired of this shit. Bastions of white male leftism, but always misogynistic, rapists, abusers etc. It always happens, see the hippies and the panthers. For true leftism to be achieved, women have to be truly equal.

And no, restorative justice is not writing “awesome” essays for 10+ years, making a profit off them and having a platform. I have no idea who that guy is as a person now or never. I know he’s an essayist and he has a record of sexual assault. I cannot trust him. 🤷🏻‍♀️

People like Michael Tracey Matt Walsh and ShoeOnHead should never be able to just move past how horrifyingly they treated this story. The more details and proof that comes out the more clear the lengths the rapists went to cover the whole thing up
@Amy_Siskind
NBC News: within 15 minutes of the Cornell campus alert on the sexual assault in November 8, 2024, tips came on to the campus police:

* the names of men
* the existence of a GroupMe fraternity group chat where frat brothers were discussing what happened
* two women at the house that night said the fraternity brothers assured them the incident was consensual — and later asked one of them not to talk about it
* a screen recording of a Snapchat conversation among Chi Phi members from that night, where one advertised “free p----y” in an upstairs bedroom
* a caller said one of the men identified was her ex-boyfriend, and he told her that he “had attended a party at Chi Phi” where a woman had been “sexually assaulted by several males and coerced into consuming ketamine and other drugs.”
And more.

Much of the information was never passed on to the Tompkins County DA Office.

If you want people to start believing allegations again, you have to shut people like this down

The internet has convinced people they are a victim or something in their past is “trauma”

They’ve done it to me and they’ll do it to others

I’d like to believe them again someday…

From: https://www.thegamer.com/minnmax-host-jacob-geller-accused-sexual-abuse/

By Joshua Robertson Published Oct 1, 2026, 1:15 PM EDT

Here is a fact-based summary of the story contents:

Over the past 24 hours, MinnMax host and YouTube essayist Jacob Geller has been accused of sexual assault by a series of people online via social media sites such as Twitter and BlueSky. These accusations claim that Geller was under investigation for rape under Title IX after being accused of sexually assaulting his unconscious girlfriend during his time at the University of North Carolina in 2016.

This was then backed up after a BlueSky user found a list of Sexual Assault Records that UNC was forced to publish back in 2020, which revealed that Jacob Geller was suspended for one semester due to sexual assault or violence. It doesn't go into detail about the nature of the sexual assault, but it is evidence he was found guilty and punished for something related to sexual assault.A preserved record of the tweets on resetera:

https://xcancel.com/handslikevap0r/status/2105313969057726526

now famous youtuber jacob geller got fired from working at wxyc UNC's college radio station (by myself and the rest of my mgmt team) for being under title ix investigation of rape and i'm pretty sure had to leave the university. men will still be successful after raping someone!

i have emails from him begging us not to fire him from the college radio station because it's 'the only community he had left' and we obviously fired him like rapists are living among us in plain sight

he sexually assaulted his ex gf while she was unconscious in 2016 and was subsequently suspended from UNC for only ONE semester

Yes every woman has been harassed, many assaulted. But every woman has also experienced invisible loss from moments she avoided harassment. She felt a space becoming unsafe, so she left, while men stayed on. And in leaving, she lost: opportunities, experiences, learning, promotions, even simply fun.

Big fan of this book (obviously): www.sonorajha.com/how-to-raise...
Sonora Jha

HOW TO RAISE A FEMINIST SON

A love story that will resonate with feminists who hope to change the world, one kind boy at a time

From teaching consent to counteracting problematic messages from the media, well-meaning family, and the culture at large, we have big work to do when it comes to our boys. This empowering book offers much-needed insight and actionable advice. It’s also a beautifully written and deeply personal story of struggling, failing, and eventually succeeding at raising a feminist son.
Informed by the author’s work as a professor of journalism specializing in social justice movements and social media, as well as by conversations with psychologists, experts, and other parents and boys, this book follows one mother’s journey to raise a feminist son as a single immigrant woman of color in America. Through stories from her own life and wide-ranging research, Sonora Jha shows us all how to be better feminists and better teachers of the next generation of men in this electrifying tour de force.
Includes chapter takeaways, and an annotated bibliography of reading and watching recommendations for adults and children.

Praise For How To Raise A Feminist Son

"Jha issues an urgent, fervent plea to raise feminist sons in this trenchant guide. At times touching and always impassioned, this is an excellent resource for like-minded parents."
—Publishers Weekly

“You can’t punish your way to a more feminist world, I’ve long believed; you have to create, encourage, invent that world, especially in how you raise kids, but that’s only one reason Sonora Jha’s book is exhilarating and inspiring. It’s a beautiful hybrid of memoir, manifesto, instruction manual, and rumination on the power of story and possibilities of family I can’t wait to put in the hands of everyone raising kids or thinking about how we do it and how it could be different.”

How on Earth did I not read this yet? really interesting and honestly kind of brazen modelling of the entire lifecycle - downstream, data centres, upstream use - of AI. Puts AI industry at 1.1% of total global energy, about the same for global emissions. More than 10x previously stated estimates
Final Results and Concluding Thoughts
Adding it all up, we estimate that the AI sector is responsible for almost 1,900 TWh of global energy consumption in 2026. And after accounting for additional factors that we did not explicitly analyze, like the construction of new electrical substations, robotic-centric warehouses, water reclamation facilities, and other infrastructure specifically designed to support the data center buildout, it’s likely that total AI-driven global energy demand is already closer to 2,000 TWh. Even at 1,900 TWh, the AI share of total global energy use in 2026 would be roughly 1.1%. We also estimate, after adding up all the sectoral numbers and landing at roughly 650 million metric tons of AI-driven CO2 emissions, that the AI share of global GHG emissions in 2026 stands at about 1.2%, with total annual global emissions sitting at roughly 55 gigatons of CO2-eq, albeit with a wide range of figures from EDGAR to UNEP (anywhere from 53 gigatons to 58 gigatons depending on a broad array of different assumptions). As we’ve discussed already, these numbers are much higher than many others in the media and academia have guessed on the basis of simplistic calculations and naïve assumptions.

The projections up to 2030 are obviously far worse and imply a catastrophic impact to global ecological stability. ChatGPT alone “processes approximately 2.5 billion prompts per day worldwide.”122 The scale of AI growth and diffusion globally is truly astounding, and the industry’s corresponding ecological footprint will soon rival that of major countries like India. It's not farfetched at all to think that the AI share of total global energy demand could rise to something like 5% by 2030, rivaling and in some cases surpassing the footprint of established dominant industries. The potential consequences of this extra resource pressure on biodiversity, global warming, freshwater scarcity, and biogeochemical cycles could be absolutely staggering and devastating for the…
