Breaking News! y-axis alert! Nino 3.4 sea surface temperatures are now more than 3 standard deviations above the 1991-2020 mean, forcing an extension of the y-axis up to 3.5σ. And that line way at the bottom? That's 1988.

Word on the reef is, shrimp are SO in this season. A crab told me. And bonus? These shirts fund our fall Philly Bug mural series. 3 Murals, 3 Artists, 3 Neighborhoods, All bugs baby. Don't get caught without a crustacean. Tell your friends. Get a shrimp shirt. At SquidFacts.net (pls RT)
A cream colored shirt with a red and blue design featuring 9 crustaceans and a fly. A scuba diving Fly Says a”am I shrimp too?” A pistol shrimp wearing a cowboy hat says “bang bang” a mantis shrimp says KO, the title says a”shrimp city and friends” a hermit crab uses a skull as a shell, a jumbo shrimp is labeled himbo shrimp, and a yeti crab is labeled “snack bacteria cafe”. The fly has an asterisk next to him and underneath the whole design it says *the latest research shows that bugs is actually shrimp”

The 12yo has declared Porcelain Crab Awareness Day! I’m especially fond of the red and white polka dotted ones. Are they crabs if they have crab in their name? Nope. These are decapod crustaceans evolving ever crab-wards!

🚨 Using polarization vision to stabilize gaze 👀 would theoretically be helpful for animals living in visually noisy environments, but it seems two decapod crustaceans use achromatic cues instead. 🚨 From @maddy-janakis.bsky.social Check it out! 🦀 academic.oup.com/iob/article/...

Jane opened up my eyes to a lot as a kid - she was a female scientist and she was known for devoting her life to it. not to her family or children, but to her passion. i remember thinking that was so cool and it was probably the first time I realized women can be known in that way.
