We’ve made a few changes to Articles. First, Articles now live in their own tab on the main navigation. The articles screen also has a new view for larger screens. We’ve also moved publications on profiles into their own tab.

We've been kind of quiet lately, but the mobile apps for Android and iOS are very close to public beta. We've been making some small changes to the web app as well.

The @mackinac.social native app is coming along. Most of the basic stuff is built out, but still some missing larger features.

There’s a new articles setting that lets you disable the in-app reader. When enabled, articles will open in their original source instead of the built-in reader, both from the Articles feed and the main feed.

Mackinac @mackinac.social · 04/06/2026

We’ve also added a subscribe button to article view header and added a button to the menu to view the original article.

A social media post announces that Standard.site link cards are coming to Bluesky. The top features a yellow background with a red letter P and a blue butterfly icon. Below, text explains that these link cards will display enhanced previews with titles and descriptions when sharing blog posts starting May 21, 2026.

Following up on yesterday’s changes, we’ve enhanced the embed card. You can also now follow publications directly from the feed!

Mackinac @mackinac.social · 02/06/2026

When posts are shared with a @standard.site embed, you can now click into the post to read it in Mackinac, or click the publication to see other posts or subscribe!

Now, when you click on publications within profile pages in Mackinac, you’ll be taken to a publication page where you can view all posts and subscribe.

If a quarter of the accounts on Bridgy Fed donated $1/mo, we could run completely on community donations for the long-term. Please help us continue to be an independent non-profit!

Starting today, the Articles feature is out of Labs and generally available! You can now subscribe to publications and read their content directly in your Articles feed. This feature is built on the @standard.site lexicons.

AI settings are now available in @mackinac.social and the @atexplore.social MCP has been updated to respect these settings. This is built to on the @lexicon.community Lexicon so it will work with any app that respects those settings.

AI preferences are now live in Mackinac!

A screen titled “AI Preferences” displays three sections: Training, Inference, and Synthetic content. Each section offers options to Allow, set No preference, or Deny the use of the user’s data for that purpose, with descriptions explaining each use.

Trending topics and feed discovery are now live! We’ll be adding more to the search page soon.

A mobile app screen shows the Atmosphere search bar, trending topics like DHS Funding, House Republicans, and Art Archive, and two discover feed cards for trending content and popular posts. A favorites section lists AT Explore with its icon at the bottom of the screen.

Mackinac @mackinac.social · 23/04/2026

We've added some features to make it easier to access profiles you visit often. You can favorite a profile, which will appear when you visit the search page. We've also added a Jump to feature under the user menu to quickly navigate to specific handles. Jump to works across protocols.

Mackinac supports custom verifications via @microcosm.blue. In settings -> verifications, you can set which verifiers you trust. You can verify users in the UI and manage your verification records.

*puts on Bridgy Fed hat* Mastodon and Bsky are architected for two very different kinds of people, and if a mass # of users were to interoperate via bridges, the benefits of each would be so much clearer and people could use what makes sense for them

We want to make bridging feel as native as possible. These feature are just the start.

@mackinac.social, built by @whiteside.io, is an open social web client that's thinking multi-protocol and bridging-first! John's added a *ton* of unique features we've never seen before, so we wanted to outline a few of them in a thread 👇🏼 1/🧵
