Katydids so cool. Lookit this sentient leaf. And I didn't even get the full length of those magnificent antannae in the shot. 💚
A bright green katydid stands on pavement; had they been on a branch they'd be almost invisible, they look so much like a leaf.

My kid is going to know what a Heron is by Matt Clegg. #HeronPoem
Watchers
What do you think you're doing? my wife asks
Each time I bundle our kid in a sling
And take her out, early, before the trucks
Hammer the roads. We leave the estate, walk along
The dual carriageway for a mile or so
Then cross the central reservation. Once
We surprised a brace of rabbits where weeds grow
Behind a bill-board, but never again since.
We're heading for the spot where the road cuts
Over the river. We can wait a long time
And often go un-rewarded, but it's
Worth it for the off-chance of seeing him
Slow-step the ebb and flow with such grace.
My kid is going to know what a heron is.

Subscribed to a sports channel package for the Blue Jays season so we've been enjoying snippets of international sports. Just watched the Hawthorn Hawks put an end to the North Melbourne Roos' 32 game win streak in Australian Women's Footy. Didn't fully understand what was happening, but still fun.

Teams messages being set to auto delete is one thing; as a platform it should only be used for low-level coordination between coworkers. The real scandal in this article is the Ontario government attempting to exploit that policy to hide directives that normally would go out over email. #CorruptAF

Below is a short, well written history of some uniquely clever Icelandic sheep. Here are photos of the “Leader Sheep” in question, and the black volcanic sands which can make traveling with a herd so dangerous. #Iceland #Sheep #Vikings
Photos of a large, hairy Icelandic Leader Sheep bred for intelligence and courage. They have large, curving horns, black and white faces and dark wool. Photo taken in Iceland of a valley of black rocks and black volcanic sand with green, moss covered hills rising in the distance. One large hill has a waterfall (as so many do here) It is a beautiful, stark part of the country.

Iceland has very few trees as most were cut down by Viking settlers. There is a movement on to rebuild the forests but it is slow going.

Update - realized shortly after posting that carefully-aligned dots were taking a long time and since it's temporary anyway I was missing out on an opportunity to Make Bad Art. Switched to squiggles and pet portraits (important thing is to check at the end that I have no gaps bigger than 2 inches).
Very sloppy drawings of cats and a rabbit on a window that is reflecting trees. Spaces between the drawings are being filled in with squiggly lines.

Ah, the weekend. Time to draw all over our new apartment's windows. I hadn't pegged our new rental as high risk for #birds flying into the windows because the balcony is deep, but earlier this week when I went out in the morning there was a warbler sitting on the cement under one of our chairs. 1/4
A large balcony window reflects trees and sky. Five rows of faint dots have been drawn with window marker on one side, starting to break up the reflection.
