When some comics became intangible online, paper became *visible* to artists again, leading to beautiful new paper comics. Now, when some "art" becomes inhuman, *we* become visible to ourselves again. What beautiful new *human* art might be the result?

Screenshot of a Tweet from Pope Leo XIV. It reads:

"In this era of artificial intelligence, it is becoming urgen to distinguish human art from what machines produce. There is an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one, between art and what a machine can generate through statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others. Algorithms lack the spark of humanity. For this reason, the Church wishes to renew an alliance with artists and cultural institutions to safeguard our humanity."

Also worth noting is I watched Muppets Treasure Island (RIP Tim Curry😢) for the first time a few months ago and not only does it slap tremendously but also the plot is just kinda great?? I was sitting there being like "should I just read the book now?"

In an attempt to catch up on my Muppets lore (I love them but am woefully undereducated) I am going through the original muppet show. My thoughts so far: 1. MANAMANA WAS IN THE PILOT?? 2. LOVE how scungy the og Gonzo is. 3. Obsessed with whatever these things are: youtu.be/NwtxXdMDJNs?...

I've had my girl Salome (formerly Sabrina) on the brain quite a lot lately. Here she is both as a kid and as a young adult, featuring the crown she's fated to inherit... #art #artsky #ocsky #sketchbook #portrait #originalcharacter

A drawing of my OC, Salome as an adolescent. From my sketchbook, done in red and blue pencil crayon. In all the drawings in this sequence, she's wearing a laurel wreath/crown on her head.

Another red and blue drawing of Salome, this time as a young adult (this and the younger version are side by side in my sketchbook, as if reacting to one another.)

Another Salome portrait in red and blue. Here I went for a much more dramatic representation of the crown, with tendrils that extend from it and poke into her eyes and mouth.

Big shapes and soft faces...will I finally be able to have my cake and eat it too? #artsky #ocsky #sketchbook #character #costume

Two drawings of my OC, Salome from my sketchbook. On the left she is wearing a solid back dress (done in ink) and a silver crown, on the right she is wearing a blue robe (done in gouache) with gold accents. Her skin and sash in both outfits are rendered in red and blue pencil crayon.

Two sketchbook drawings of another OC, Miriam in the same style. She is wearing two different styles of dress, again done as a solid black ink shape. Her skin and sash details are rendered in red and blue pencil crayon.

Humaning.

A four-panel comic. In panel 1, a Northern Cardinal and American Goldfinch perch above a busy crowd in a city, looking down. The cardinal says "It's a nice day to go humaning." The goldfinch says "Just look at them. Majestic." In panel 2, a close-up of the two birds. The cardinal says "Nobody tells you that you'll reach a certain age and suddenly get into humaning. I hit 3 years old, and then bam."The birds are looking out over the crowd scene. In panel 3, the cardinal says "Their calls sound funny to us, but each one has a unique meaning." Below, people are saying various things: "I'm tired." "Where's my phone?" "I'd murder a burrito." In panel 4, the birds look down excitedly at a man walking by. The cardinal says "Wait, is that a guy who got dressed in the dark and put his shirt on inside out and backwards?" And the goldfinch exclaims, "Holy... that's a lifer!"

Well, this ended up more of an experiment with media than anything else, but to be fair, that was what I intended when I started. I don't know how I feel about the finished result as a whole, but I like a lot of the textures, and I learned a little more about what works for me and what doesn't.

A watercolor and ink painting of a barn owl with starry patterning on its neck and down the center of its face. The owl sits nestled in a dead tree, looking directly at the viewer. Five other larger star designs are positioned around the owl and its tree.

A photo of a watercolour sketchbooks, featuring two portraits of a female figure with curly brown hair. The first has a teal background, and the woman is wearing a brown, batik pattern headband in her hair, tied in a sort of bow at the front. The second has an orange background, and the girl is wearing a blue and white polka dot scarf over her hair. The scarf also has little yellow baskets of fruit and flowers decorating it.

A self portrait in my sketchbook, done in ink, gouache and pencil crayon. I'm looking straight ahead have my leg lifted up at a 90° angle to better show my shoes. I'm wearing an oversized denim jacket and jeans, a blue sweater with burgundy stripes (that match my burgundy converse) over a white collared shirt. I'm holding a blue and white tote bag.
