"She over and over again said, 'Please, try up on my shoulder higher, please try here, please try here," Randy Spivey, another of her lawyers, said. He added that Ms. Pike thanked them once staff members thought they had established the two lines.

👏 👇 It’s a good article, other than overascribing intelligence
Here, the explanation may be simple:
Trump sees himself in Hegseth. From angry culture war posturing to his willingness to challenge the media and an obsession with image over substance, Hegseth's qualities are fundamentally Trumpian, suited to a television personality and not a public servant. Indeed, more than anyone else in the Trump administration, the self-styled "secretary of war" is uniquely well-positioned to mimic Trump himself in this way.

Luke Ontario @coolhand.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
He’s a narcissistic meathead. Case closed
What, then, is driving Hegseth? His policy preferences and ideology remain remarkably opaque even at this point. Profiles of the secretary have focused primarily on his reli-gion, suggesting he may be a form of Christian nationalist. Yet despite bringing extreme preachers to the Pentagon, and monthly prayer ses-sions, he hasn't pushed much of an explicitly religious agenda.

It’s fucking true. How did this happen
I did find myself baffled by the coverage of what I thought was maybe the most bat-guano crazy thing to come out of Trump's unhinged Truth Social feed: His "announcement" that his 250-foot "triumphal arch" in the nation's capital will now become a sniper's nest stockpiling live ammo and lethal
drones.
What read like a plea for a code-302 involuntary-commitment police call for
1600 Pennsylvania Ave. was instead treated by too many journalists as a serious news story, followed up by thumbsucking pieces about Trump's new penchant for invoking "national security" to silence critics of his many vanity projects. Fellow journalists: We need fewer "think pieces" and more
"this man cannot think" articles.

This disingenuous bullshit has real world consequences. Now we have ignorant columnists picking it up to advise less regulation.
Launched with the support of more than 100 industry partners, Nvidia's Open Agent Safety Platform places hard limits on what these agents can do, using deterministic software that exists outside the Al to enforce the rules. The system may not be bulletproof out of the gate, but the very existence of an engineered solution suggests regulators should pace themselves.

“Our business model relies on obfuscating value through complexity, and these asshole robots read the manual”
An economist has weighed in on that dynamic with a question that banks are privately grappling with and racing to address: "Is an Agentic Bank Run Coming?" So wondered Torsten Slok, chief economist of Apollo Global Man-agement, in a note on Sunday.
"If every household used Al agents to optimize the return on their cash bal-ances, banks could lose a large share of the cheap deposits they rely on to make loans, which would be a problem for the entire financial system," Slok wrote, adding that Meta's Muse and other agents could move cash deposits around.

No, for two reasons. One is that our team already had a campaign to use custom transformer models to predict higher loops, and part of our slogan was: "We have all the tools to validate any candidate solution a machine would provide us." Claude is a different kind of transformer model, probably over a million times bigger than our custom one. But sure, we said we could validate any result an Al model would give us, so we can and should do it. The second reason is that, if you look at how Claude solved the problem, it used all the methods my collaborators and I developed over the years, and it presented the solution (maybe as a favor to us) in the same format we had already set up. So while I'm validating Claude's result, Claude is validating all of our previous work. In fact, I would assert that Claude understands our 2019 and 2023 papers better than any human, aside from my co-authors.

Luke Ontario @coolhand.bsky.social · 27/09/2026
This is fun. I fed that post to Fable 5.1 “There’s a distinction between ‘Claude discovered something new’and ‘Claude successfully pushed an existing procedure farther.’ The title invites the former reading much more strongly than the actual result warrants.” Continues:
So your compression - "existing method + more compute" - is a little reductive, but not unfair. I'd expand it by maybe six words:
"Existing method + more inference compute + unexpectedly successful depth."
And that is actually interesting! But it's interesting as evidence about scaling and agentic persistence, rather than as evidence that Claude invented some remarkable new reasoning technique.
The funny part is that the article itself arguably demonstrates the contemporary Al-research tendency to spend 2,000 words carefully distinguishing a result whose core description takes about 15.

BeYONCÉ
Some climate leaders think the Al boom could be a way to underwrite the transition to renewables. "We're going to make the hyperscalers pay for it, and that's what I think is going to likely catch on with Democratic presidential candidates," John Podesta, a consigliere to the last three Democratic presidents and a longtime climate-action champion, told me.
BeYONCE is the cringeworthy acronym for this idea-bring your own clean energy. A parallel notion is to force the Al giants to offset their electricity guzzling by paying for household energy upgrades-putting heat pumps in every home in exchange for being allowed to build data centers

Some progressives cast doubt on any insights from a Democrat who is the opposite of a fresh face and who works for a Wall Street firm.
"He's like the political equivalent of Windows 95 - an operating system without an application in the modern era,' said Maurice Mitchell, the national director of the Working Families Party, a progressive group. "I don't know what counsel he has to offer people who are running in competitive elections in 2026."
For his part, Mr. Emanuel said he had a history of winning. And while he did not shy away from the fact that fresh alliances he is forging in these House races could help him if he does, in fact, run for president in 2028, he was also clear that his efforts were not driven by higher ambitions.

Blah blah etc
Total investment in data centers and related artificial-intelligence infrastructure is projected to total $10.3 trillion from 2025 to 2032, according to new estimates by economist Stijn van Nieuwerburgh published by the Brookings Institution. That is a staggering 3.6% of gross domestic product a year, on average. Never before has the U.S. economy been so dependent on the build-out of a single industry.
The investment is transforming every corner of the economy, creating hundreds of thousands of jobs and minting new billionaires.
It is also creating significant risk, as much of it is built on debt. An abrupt slowdown could ignite shock waves throughout the U.S. econ-omy.
Projecting investment is tricky, and total spending might well end up substantially lower. Still, the money poured into data centers this year already represents an investment unprecedented in recent history. AI investment in the U.S. is projected to hit 1.9% of GDP in 2026, according to new estimates from Goldman Sachs. The railroad boom of e 19th century marked the last tir Q the build-out of one new industry accounted
