This is what Labour have been doing under both Starmer and Burnham - ducking the truly difficult questions and pretending that doing the anti-migrant stuff causes them pain, when actually they get an illicit thrill out of it. They're avoidant and they fail for that reason above all.

Our CEO Maya Foa writes in the Guardian: "Christa Pike's ordeal in the execution chamber was a visceral demonstration that there is nothing medical or humane about execution by lethal injection. What we saw was the awful, ugly, indefensible reality of the death penalty."

What do Britain’s death-penalty cheerleaders have to say about Christa Pike? | Maya Foa
Her harrowing botched execution is a reminder of why we must not even entertain the idea of restoring capital punishment, says Maya Foa, CEO of the human rights charity Reprieve

In 1066 it would have taken William the Conqueror's army about 2 hours to march the 6.3 miles from Hastings to Battle, but today I managed to cover the same distance in almost half that time thanks to Southeastern trains.

I don't care who someone is, it's not possible to do £150m worth of damage to someone's reputation even if you say the worst thing you can possibly imagine, and if a lawyer putting their name to that level of claim isn't professional misconduct, it should be.

We rightly give Home Office ministers a hard time here for many things, but in their defence, not one of them has ever ordered the Identity & Passport Service to mail out passports in envelopes that might as well be printed with the words ‘Important identity document enclosed: please steal’.

AI music is like AI everything else - soulless, uncanny, and totally devoid of anything beneath the surface. I'm reluctantly prepared to accept that for work stuff, but damned if I will for art. And that's leaving aside the people whose work has been stolen to generate the training data.

Al music is now very, very good. You just don't know yet because all Al music circulating today is from ~2-3 generations ago.
Suno v6 pro et al has solved infinite personalized music.

Also, rather than producing anything useful, the point of this kind of company is reverse pass the parcel - make sure someone else is holding the bag when the music stops.

Only political hacks seem to be pushing the idea, presumably because it's a good story and temporarily stops everyone asking why they get paid obscene amounts of money to be court stenographers.

MPs do occasionally discuss national and even international issues. All politics may start local, but it doesn't stay there.

The most terrifying email subject: 'Evri has your parcel'. I always expect the next bit to be 'and if you ever wish to see it again, leave £100 in non-sequential, used notes behind one of your neighbour's bins, where we may leave your parcel in exchange if we don't throw it on the roof instead'.

This, with added 'gives you flashbacks to being in hospital and someone waking you at 5am after a night of very little sleep because they simply have to record a reading on their shift, so they try BP, temperature, and oxygen saturation all at once and wonder why you look pissed off'.

80 hours of embroidery! This aerial landscape is directly inspired by Dartmoor and I'd say I have another 30-ish hours to go? I'm now starting to fill in the fields for the sheep, the tor area will be done last as I'm still deciding whether I want a slope or not 😅 I hope you like it! #art

Dario, Elon, and Sam all agree about pacing the frontier
Dario Amodei A @DarioAmodei
We Must Pace the Frontier: I've written a new essay on why the Al industry should slow down, with a three-part plan for doing so.
Anthropic is unilaterally committing to the first of these steps. We'll provide third-party evaluators with permanent, employee-level access to our systems, so that they can verify adherence to our safety measures, report on incidents, and assess models' alignment during training.
You can read the full post here:JUST IN: Sam Altman reveals OpenAl will not go public in 2026, calling an IPO now an "ill-advised moment" given mounting Al safety concerns.
