Also it magically fixed a weird long standing DNS issue I had with Tailscale. Love that it now has a proper Waybar icon and menu.

This was possibly the smoothest major version OS upgrade I have ever experienced. Linux usually just breaks, whereas Windows and macOS take hours to complete. This was fast and seamless.

Upgraded to Omarchy Quatro. Took maybe a minute on a 5 year old ThinkPad over shitty WiFi. New native apps for display, volume and network settings are actually really good. It’s actually starting to feel like a full fledged distro rather than just running DHH’s config on your device.

We can not overstate how much the economy has become about turning everything that was a good into a "service" specifically to extract from you more rent.

To me funniest part about using AI to write emails is that a prompt that will yield a sufficiently detailed email on any non-trivial subject, is going to need to be longer than the actual email itself. So you are actually doing more, to do less.

Devs saw that in playtesting, they put in a fix: Cyphers are unstable, and if you carry too many, they can explode. So now, the game is about sorting Cyphers. You are still supposed to give them out like candy, but players must now drop everything and sort them into keep and trash piles.

The designers noticed that when you give players single use magic items, they always save them for a really big boss fight. So when the players finally face BBEG, each player has 600 saved up Cyphers, and they either nuke him down in 3 turns, or choose to save up their Cyphers for even bigger fight

Numenera is a brilliant RPG setting marred by a an absolute dogshit core mechanic. In Numenera, 99% of all loot is supposed to be single use magic items. They're equivalent to scrolls, except that anyone can use them, and you can't copy them into your spell book.

Hot take: one of the things that Go got absolutely right is the trailing coma in multi-line initializations: stuff := []string{ "foo", "bar", }

It's kinda crazy that the catalyst for finally getting a Windows native Tmux port was vibe coders demanding to have Claude grids on the Microslop OS, but you know what? I'll take it.

It's funny how people pretend not to understand that making an app at a "hackaton" is equivalent to building something in your garage using mostly duct tape, hot glue and zip ties, and while it may work, it is definitely not something you'd feel comfortable selling to a customer.

luke @lukemaciak.bsky.social · 16/03/2026

Can confirm. I recently re-watched it out of nostalgia, and I hate to say it, but it does not hold up. Also, everyone is talking like they're in a marvel movie all the time because Joss Wheedon invented that trope. This show literally pioneered "well, that just happened" quipping style.

If you are looking for an AI-free, bloat-free Notepad replacement, you don't need Edit++. If you're on Windows 11 25H2 you can just type in "edit" in the terminal. Yes, after years of absence the MS-DOS default text editor is back! It has been resurrected and re-written in rust.

This is how a barn owl looks like without feathers. If you never saw a living owl, and were working only from it's skeleton, would you be able to faithfully reconstruct how it actually looks? Or would you end up with something like this? Dinosaurs probably looked nothing like we imagine them.
