In general I noticed the tendency that more and more Lego fan content gets into conflict with Lego's legal department, which is sad to see. The Lego community thrives like no other on creativity and community activity. This backwards trend is thus even more upsetting.

What I have also seen, are a wide range of reactions, from petitions, to announcements of boycots and some folks cussing violently at The Lego Group.

The relationship between TLG and the Bionicle fandom has been rough for years now. And it looks like it only goes worse from here. TLG as a rights owner is allowed to act the way they did. Still, it is irriating to see this change of attitude after almost a decade of the project's existence.

I think most people in the community have seen this by now. BIONICLE: Masks of Power has been cancled. A really big bummer to the fandom and most of all, Unmasked Games, whospent years of effort into this project.

There's been some errant speculation that Lego is planning to do something with Bionicle and they didn't want MoP stealing any of their oxygen. I personally think that's extremely unlikely but I can understand why someone would come to that conclusion because it makes more surface-level sense...

it's an absolute shame to hear about Masks of Power, the Bionicle fan game that has now been shutdown suddenly. Lego seems to have a much different stance on fan projects now, closer to how Nintendo does things (which is shit). Has me incredibly worried for future and current fan projects

Personally I don't believe that to be the case either, but even if they were to make a bionicle reboot or whatever it could be, I feel like this is just self sabotaging. I mean having the first act of such a reboot be "kill off the most popular love letter" immediately sours the mood.

I, for one, will never buy a product from Lego again. There are so many passionate Bionicle fans out there that have made their own ways to keep the brand alive. Between the takedown of this game and the takedown of the turaga files, I simply can't support a company that hates their fans this much.

Definitely an underwhelming presence and support from Lego for Bionicle and Bionicle fans. The theme was revived in 2016 but no support after that. I feel as if Lego is changing their public appearance more recently. They have employees posting videos on YouTube, and changing announcements online.
