It's #TrilobiteTuesday and old friends sent me this after a visit to the Field Museum, so I guess I'm obliged to share? Or visit again, whatever. Apparently the Pokémon fossil exhibit is really good too.

3D reconstruction of the biramous appendage of Yunnanocephalus yunnanensis (Mansuy, 1912) with six labeled views: dorsal, ventral, anterior, posterior, lateral distal, and lateral proximal. The protopodite and endopodite are based on direct scan observations, while the exopodite is reconstructed by inference. Labeled structures include endites, endopodite, exopodite (proximal and distal lobes), gnathobasic spines, lamellae, protopodite, setae, and terminal claw. Not to scale. Labeled structures include antennae, articles, cephalon, endopodite, exopodite, left and right cephalic and thoracic appendages (lC1–lC4, lT1–lT14, rT1–rT14), and thorax. Scale bars: 2 mm (A–D), 0.5 mm (E), 1 mm (F). So you've heard about trilobites, but do you know Naraoids? These trilobite cousins shared similar bodies but differed in details. Most importantly, they lacked hard exoskeleton and had only soft cuticle. That's why they are known only from sites with exceptional preservation, such as Burgess Shale.
