Musk will then immediately share it with China, of course, where half of all Teslas are made and a third of all Teslas are sold, the single most important market to his company's success, and likely the only country in which Tesla sales have a possibility of growing this year.

I really wish Dem strategists would just once go on TV and acknowledge that Trump only won by 1.5% and didn't even get a majority before they start with the tiresome "Democrats have completely lost touch with average Americans etc, etc." That's how you think after a landslide loss not a squeaker.

This Paul Weiss capitulation is the most disgraceful action by a major law firm in my lifetime, so appalling that I couldn’t believe it at first. Any lawyers at that firm—partners or associates—who don’t promptly resign will defile their moral and professional reputations beyond repair.

I may have missed this during his inaugural remarks but President Trump is instructing the Department of Justice to seek the death penalty against undocumented immigrants who seriously injure U.S. citizens:
A screenshot reads: "The Department of Justice will seek the death penalty as the appropriate punishment for heinous crimes against humanity, including those who kill law enforcement officers and illegal migrants who maim and murder Americans."

When I lecture about New Deal banking reforms, I note that some of the key measures — like Glass Steagall — were repealed by the right with disastrous results like the 2008 financial meltdown, but ha ha, no one will ever be stupid enough to kill FDIC and bring back the old bank runs.

you can tell that Trump is authentically extremely xenophobic and pushes that stuff down into the staffer class to get it done but isn't authentically transphobic in the same way and the staffer class pushes that stuff up into him instead

That's why there's an aggressive effort now to blame "identity politics," it's a retcon because Harris ran exactly the campaign centrists wanted, catering to conservatives, never criticizing Netanyahu, never blaming billionaires or big corporations, the works—just to lose to Old Man Yells at Cloud.

finally a reasonable take
Liberals and the left do not need the right to
be online in the way that the right needs
liberals and the left. The nature of reactionary
politics demands constant confrontations-
literal reactions- to the left. People like Rufo
would have a substantially harder time trying
to influence opinions on a platform without
liberals. "Triggering the libs" sounds like a
joke, but it is often essential for segments of
the right. This explains the popularity of some
X accounts with millions of followers, such as
Libs of TikTok, whose purpose is to troll
liberals.
The more liberals leave X, the less value it
offers to the right, both in terms of cultural
relevance and in opportunities for trolling.

It’s just frustrating that the right wing never has to do shit, even when they lose. Never have to reach out, to welcome, to understand, to moderate their positions. They get to be who they are & never apologize for it and people will blame progressives for not putting up with that shit

If you're blaming "polarization," as if magnets or zombies or "both sides," caused it - you're an accomplice to the authoritarians. Making people ask pronouns and making plans for concentration camps are not, in fact, the same thing.

MAGA used Trans people and immigrants as scapegoats to blame for economic bad vibes, offered simple bad solutions to fix the economy, now Dems are using Trans people as scapegoats so they don’t have to turn-off their corp backers by getting real on Econ inequality. Not one word of my solicited response to NYT columnist Thomas Edsall's election post-mortem made it to print. So, here are his questions to me and my answers:
Anat,

Does the election outcome suggest that class has begun to outweigh racial and ethnic identity and this trend is working to the advantage of Republicans? If so, is the 2024 Republican coalition a viable and sustainable coalition?

Did the election reveal the fragility and vulnerability of the Democrats upstairs (well-educated, largely white)/downscale (disproportionately minority) coalition?

Have the cultural values of white liberals become a liability to the Democratic Party?

How much trouble in the Democratic Party in?

Has the feminization of the Democratic Party become a liability?

Any thoughts welcome, Best Tom
