Whenever I see a movie or artistic project that has big ambitions and then fails at them I can never bring myself to dislike it. Even when I know it is extremely flawed or even altogether bad, I still respect the ambition so much that i end up rooting for it. God knows we need risky ideas these days

I get that a lot of Americans didn't vote for Trump and dont approve of the trade war, but the constant apologies and disavowals are starting to grate, honestly. Like I get it, you're sorry, but maybe, while we're worrying about our livelihoods we don't want to reassure you you're a good person.

I feel like it's a misnomer to say AI "makes mistakes". A mistake is what happens when you try to do one thing, but accidentally do another. AI always does exactly what it's trying to do - amalgamate a phrase from other common phrases. In that sense, it never makes mistakes (🧵 1/2)

One thing that AI has made very clear to me is that our society is absolutely full of frustrated creative longing. And I can empathize with that. But watching a machine spit out a slurry of ideas that have already been done before will not make you feel any better.

The tech industry has always "disrupted" by following a very similar pattern: hype the product, collect huge amounts of VC, use that capital to run at a loss, price way below the competition, then hike the prices again once they go out of business. Only with AI, the competition is human creativity.

I like how for years, resistance to destructive or ugly construction projects were handwaved away with, "Think how many jobs it will bring! Jobs justify anything" Data centres not only don't create jobs but are designed to destroy them, and its just, "Yeah, we dont care lol, fuck your community."

Capitalism has always hated art because it's a form of labour that is done for the satisfaction of the worker and not the profit of the owning class, and it cannot be enclosed or made artificially scarce because anyone can do it with almost anything. That's what AI is designed to change.
