I had a very successful season with a breed called Midnight Snack. Very pretty, mottled black and red fruit, extremely sweet and delicious, very productive but large and unwieldy plant.

Either it's a private company and the labor of all contributors need to be compensated, or it's a public good and it should be owned in common. You do not get to argue that the artistic output of the human race belongs to eveyone and then privatize it through technology.

Wait so AI is entitled to the work of all the artists in the world, is that right? Because art is some kind of universal birthright. Cool. OK. So what portion of Openai do I get to own for my contribution? If our work is owned in common then so should theirs.

I didn't drive. The only way to obey all of the advice was to barricade myself in my home and never live my life. But if I had been attacked it would have been my fault for not obeying the advice.

When I was in grad school, there was serial assaulter who was attacking women near campus. My school sent out emails warning women not to walk to and from school alone. Not long after that there was a high profile attack in a taxi. Cops warned us not to take cabs. Then there was an attack on a bus.

Whenever I see a movie or artistic project that has big ambitions and then fails at them I can never bring myself to dislike it. Even when I know it is extremely flawed or even altogether bad, I still respect the ambition so much that i end up rooting for it. God knows we need risky ideas these days

Film works in visual shorthand, i.e. watching a couple kiss is a shorthand for telling the audience, "a romance has officially begun." But there are other ways to get that information across, if you experiment a little. I don't want to listen to actors slurping.

Audiodrama creators, I say this with love: Not everything that works on screen works in audio. The big onscreen kiss that signifies a couple is finally getting together? On screen, romantic, satisfying. In audio, you're recording two smooching actors and making me listen to the slurp slurp sounds.

My mother is in her 70s and even she watches Facebook reels. FB has become the old lady platform, and even it is flooded with meme accounts, joke accounts, content. Younger folks doomscroll on Tiktok, Instagram reels. Twitter and Reddit is mostly strangers yelling at each other.

It's almost cute. Like she thinks it's 2006 and we're all still on MySpace and MSN Messenger. People on social media aren't talking to their friends, they're watching a firehose of influencers pretending to be their friends.

I have a trade deficit with my grocery store. I buy stuff from them all the time but they've never bought anything from me. I am getting ripped off. If I just stopped buying food altogether, I would generate billions of dollars of profit for myself.
