Star Wars prequels discourse elsewhere reminded me of a thread I did years ago back on X the Everything App about Peter Jackson LOTR films revisionism and the "why are there GIRLS in my fantasy film!" guys from back then. Moving it over here rather than get annoyed again from scratch:

Old tweet from me, 18 Feb 2023: "It is weird watching views on the LOTR films do this total 180° from "ruining Tolkien!!1!" to "near perfect" in 20+ yrs.
(I love them but they do sacrifice a lot of theme and richness for the sake of hitting key plot points & telling a film-friendly story)"

Old tweet from me, 18 Feb 2023, screenshots of some 2001 posts about the LOTR films. tweet reads: ""Dig up his grave and molest his skeleton" plus "ratings-grabbing tit shot" - the kinder, gentler internet of 2001.""

not to weigh in on any of this but also to weigh in a bit- as a survivor i really think we should be listening to survivors in this instance bc truthfully all of this is so disheartening to watch.

Pre-emptive warning: I have zero tolerance for any ship war bullshit anywhere near my mentions, and I have -8000 tolerance for ship war bullshit cloaked in Caring About Real Issues when said real issues have had traumatic real-life impacts on many of us. Do not try this anywhere near me, thanks bye.

fyi if you weren't there for something that happened to others in a fandom, especially to people you actively hate, you don't get to claim it and use it as an example to victimise yourself 💀

010

Rabbit Post SDCC @lucillesharpe.bsky.social · 12/08/2026

you could also say sauron was an irrelevant side character in lotr based on his amount of dialogue too but that's a convo for another day 🚬🙂‍↕️

food for thought on this fine morning: if you hate tolkien so much, why are you trying to be an authority in the fandom for his books?

So you know how Galadriel calls Celeborn a ‘giver of gifts beyond the power of kings’ and Celeborn calls Galadriel his ‘treasure’ which in Sindarin could well be the same word as ‘admirable’ or ‘precious’, and you’d think it would be a bit odd to have Sauron-ish pet names for each other UNLESS -
