I've long thought that the solution to the spam problem is that email should be taxed a penny a message. I don't care if you burn the money. I just want the friction. But the ability to use agents to customize bullshit at scale makes me think email should be taxed at a dollar a message.

You may have heard of the VCG mechanism for preference revelation, but do you know who Edward Clarke was and how his approach differed from that of Ted Groves and Bill Vickrey? In this new paper, we contribute to the history of public choice in the 1970s doi.org/10.1007/s111...

Not weird, but farmers' markets are not really a thing in italy. there are outdoor markets, but the vendors are not farmers. The vibe is very different. Berkeley Bowl also worth a trip... it's italians, they'll love all things food

This has the most hilarious pronunciation of Italian last names ever, so much so that I struggled to understand which player they were talking about more than once. I suspect the German isn't much better. Good thing it's an official FIFA video. youtu.be/DIxr3kQnYvk?...

Second this. I went sometimes: it was considered very exotic and adventurous. The only dish I remember is "pollo alle mandorle", which would translates as "chicken with almonds": chicken bites with almonds in a pretty flavorless sauce. I'm sure there are many decent to good options now.

I'm saying that having an extra step we don't really understand makes me uneasy. The game gets more complicated, and many people much smarter and knowledgeable than me worry about the consequences for peer reviews. I just wish we had an open discussion about it, which is not really what happened.

Agreed, but there are implications that aren't obvious to me and I would have preferred some kind of debate about it. Not saying it's necessarily wrong, but just that there are many things we don't understand or control and that's a worry

Doesn't this change behavior and incentives of the referees? I'm slow, but I do not see why not. At that point, not clear at all if there is a strategic advantage or not for authors. Maybe there isn't, but it's not obvious to me.

All well and good, but Juan makes a good point. I completely agree with him this would be more appropriate if done with an open source tool, or something under the control of the societies rather than a private company. Also, it would have been much better to consult the membership beforehand

You may think your field is the best field. That’s fine – you probably like it the most by revealed preference. You would likely be best served as viewing other fields as inspiration for your own field, rather than as gnats to be ignored.
