A great read from @klaszus.bsky.social as always. Thank you for writing this! I continue to be dumbfounded by anyone that argues against safer streets after reading the stats in this piece. We know what works, & it's not letting drivers behave recklessly & drive fast.

I hope whatever civil engineering firm lands this RFP is haunted at night by visions of the cyclists they'll be killing. I hope their iron ring they were given at graduation when they took an oath to the public starts to itch and weigh on their finger like an anchor.
What is certain, however, is that a vast sum of our money will be wasted, countless Torontonians will find themselves profoundly inconvenienced for extended periods, and, eventually, a cyclist will get struck by a car. But at least the congestion will be worse.

One way to tackle this may be through engineering code of conducts and standards. engineers aren't allowed to endanger lives. No ethical traffic engineer should do this work.

There are 65 intersections in Calgary with leading pedestrian signals (starts before vehicles get green light) and collisions in those intersections have decreased 35%. 👍 They will now do the rest, but it will take 2 years to complete! 😲 #Calgary

Calgary can quickly achieve widespread support for safe cycle track infrastructure by making every blue-bike signed street 30km/h. It’s really the only safe thing to do if there’s no cycle track. 🤷‍♂️ Let’s do it #yyccc #yycbike

Last year, when this was started, we had reports from schools where 40% of girls that should be at tryouts are not there - schools went to single teams, instead of 2for many sports. I'm struck dumb by the compliance from sports orgs, school boards etc.
